Ahwahnichi Lodge

From the Main entry, there is a window seat nook allowing a view of the woods or a place to read a good book. In the vaulted living room, a cheery fireplace lights the comfortable decor which connects to the wood-floored dining room. The wooden cabinetry and leaded doors tell of an era dedicated to tasteful wood trim and skilled detail. The flow-through kitchen has countertops selected to resemble the speckled granite so common in Yosemite. A fully equipped kitchen, laundry facilities, and other amenities allow dining on the adjoining deck or inside in the distinctive window alcove. Downstairs is the family room with a futon and another fireplace. There is a TV/DVD, for movie view, (sorry no Satellite). Two bedrooms with a queen bed in the first bedroom, and a full & twin size bed in the second bedroom. Each bedroom has a three-window alcove and a rounded window seat; perfect for viewing the resplendent outdoors. The family room is ready for jigsaw puzzles or games by the fire and includes a mini-bar for that late-night snack of smores. Fabrics in the house interweave the Indian, Asian, and Arts and Crafts themes popular in Yosemite during that era.

There are two and 1/2 bathrooms, one on each floor, tiled with an Indian theme and arts and craft wood shelving. Upstairs is the romantic master bedroom hideaway with its vintage Morris chair and the warm glow of art glass lanterns. The Master bedroom has a king-size bed, its own nook for reading, as well as its own deck, to catch a vista view of the sunset peeking through the sugar pines and spruce trees. With its refined, clean lines, this house is a place to treasure Yosemite. This cabin reflects an era when we had time to think, walk in the woods or be with the people that we care about. Turn off the telephone, leave the computer in its bag and enjoy a simpler world at Ahwahnichi Lodge.
There are 3 parking spots over the summer months, and 2 over the winter months.

Very nice home
We enjoyed our stay at the rental very much, it was very clean, well equipped and comfortable. We would definitely stay here again. A couple of things to keep in mind, as the description says there is no a/c and it can get pretty warm in the summer. We opened the windows in the mornings and evenings which helped quite a bit but something to keep in mind nevertheless. Also, no internet. This made it difficult to keep in touch when some of us were backpacking and came off the trail a day early. With all the internet options out there it seems like it would be quite simple to acquire it. Regardless the house is very nice and would recommend it to others with the caveats listed above.

April in Yosemite
Our stay at Ahwanichi was just what we needed after the last 2 years of pandemic living. The house was immaculately clean and well maintained. The location is ideal and only 20 minutes to the valley. Everyone enjoyed disconnecting (be forewarned, no WIFI!) playing board games and watching deer outside the window. A few minor things could be changed - the DVD player was not functional (not a big deal, but if the TV doesn't get any channels, and the DVD player doesn't work, why it is there?) and there were a number of broken blinds in the bedrooms. The kitchen has a wide assortment of pots/pans, but it would be nice if they stocked more glassware and basics like cooking oil. Can't comment on responsiveness of the property manager as we never tried to contact them. Also, do your best not to park under the pine tree, as you will end up with lots of sap on your car. Overall, well worth a visit and we look forward to returning (with some additional cooking essentials next time).

HOT water or FREEZING cabin, those are your options when you stay here.
If you are going in winter, make sure to take chains for your tires, especially if it has recently snowed. The roads up till about 1/4 mile to the cabin were clear. After that it was pretty icy and we were slipping. We couldn’t even get into the driveway, we were getting stuck. With a lot of effort finally managed to park off to the side on the road. And then had to carry everything into the cabin from the road up the icy driveway - not the safest conditions. We had NO HOT WATER. The management company was helpful, in that they came out quickly in the evening to check it out but unfortunately they weren’t able to fix it. So we had no hot water for showers for 3 days or a few opted for quick ice cold showers, washing dishes and hands in ice cold water. Management told us to turn off all the thermostats and then wait to see if we get hot water. Nope, didn’t work and we had to sit in a cold cabin for hours hoping to get some hot water. Also, I’ve had formed on the wall outside the first level bathroom which was melting and causing a puddle of water inside the bathroom. Management said they would come and melt the ice so we wouldn’t have the puddle but they did not take care of this during our stay. A very measly discount was given due to the hot water issue, but it was not enough. Had gone up for my mom’s birthday, had two young children and two elderly parents - so having to sit in a cold cabin while waiting for some hot water to shower was not really an option. Also, when you spend the day out in park, you’d like to come back to a warm cabin and be able to take a hot or even warm shower. We had neither. And it was cold out! The cabin was lovely but the owner of the property is not responsive and their credit for the inconvenience was pathetic.

Great Place in Yosemite West!
Very clean and up-to-date furnishings. 20 minutes from the valley, 15 minutes from Badger Pass Ski Area, and 25 minutes from Wawona Hotel area. No Wi-Fi or TV and basically no cell service, so if that’s a big deal, I’d consider somewhere else. Overall, very happy with our vacation and lodging.

Beautiful home. Well equipped kitchen. Perfect location for enjoying all of Yosemite.
Received prompt responses from management regarding property questions prior to arrival. Only disappointment was that main fire place was not working and a sign "not use" was left on fireplace. Overall was a positive experience and will not hesitate to use again.

Pretty nice
Overall, the finish and cleanliness of this property won me over big-time and I was regretting leaving it. The one thing that stood out is that the kitchen floor is some kind of cork that is warping and needs to be replaced. This is in stark contrast to the classy appointments throughout the rest of the home. This was the only room I didn't feel comfortable in, especially in socks. -Kitchen trash under the counter would be nice (there is a trash bin in the pantry/laundry room). And shower soap would be nice, but it clearly states these are not provided. These are very minor issues. There is a sign just inside the very bottom (this is where you enter, not the middle floor) asking people to remove their shoes. Other than the very bottom stairs and kitchen, the floor is very nice so I can see why they did this. The house actually runs pretty warm (hydroponic floors?), so be sure to check those thermostats at night, there is one in each room. There are plenty of other houses in close proximity, but that's normal in Yosemite West. The trees block any full view of the sunset, but it's still nice to look out the window or be on the deck. Everyone liked it and was sad to leave.

Wonderful, yet disappointing
The location was excellent. The property-outstanding. Yet, it had little of a welcoming vacation property feel, considering the location and the rental rate. It could use some TLC outside. The windows were dirty and there were thick cobwebs around them. A few amenities would have been nice to have. A small cooler would be advised. You fly in, drive 3+ hours and no cooler for picnic lunches in the park. An ice maker- as the closest store is 14 miles of crooked road and no cooler to bring it back in. 2 trays? A DVD player was provided, but you had go to the rental office office (not easy to find) before close to pick out one. No cable, satellite, WiFi.- ok with me, but not with others in the party. I am sure it is expensive, but don’t write you can’t get it when there were 3 homes in view with satellite. If you expect people to play games, please have more than 4 or 5 and puzzles. At least 1 full deck of cards is minimal. Shampoo, conditioner, and lotion (basic hotel amenities) would be appropriate- again trying not to pack much. I have stayed in many vacation homes for over 20 years, and this was by far the barest.

Location, location, location!
We LOVED staying here! Everything we needed for comfort was there, and the house was very clean. We are a family of 5 and there was plenty of room to cook, sleep and shower and relax. Besides a beautiful home, the best thing about this property is the location--Yosemite is minutes away, including Glacier Point. There were no other options for nearby lodging except the national park properties and camping. We appreciated the opportunity to stay here and will likely come again! Remember--no internet or AC though!

This is a great property, beautiful and comfortable.
All our needs were met in this beautiful property. We did a lot of cooking in the well outfitted kitchen and spent happy times around the large table in the dining nook. Had a great view out all the large windows as the May snowfall covered the trees, cars and street
