Scaliger Tombs showing heritage elements
Northern Italy is home to this romantic city of history that stretches back to Roman times, with ruins, churches and signature cuisine.

Verona is known for sites associated with Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, not because of historical fact, but due to beautiful architecture and lovely lanes custom-made for romance. Explore art galleries and museums between stopping at restaurants to try wine from inland vineyards, local produce and salami and risotto.

The main square, Piazza Bra is a lively place to start or end your day at outdoor restaurants. Enjoy people-watching with your coffee before exploring the attractions of Centro Storico. You’ll see Verona Arena from the square. This Roman amphitheater is remarkably well preserved and still used today for open-air theater.

Juliet's House is one of the city center’s most popular attractions. The house itself was owned by the Cappello family and dates back to the 13th century, with no actual ties to Shakespeare. The tourist attraction features an enchanting balcony and a statue of Juliet in the courtyard. Visit the museum inside to see Renaissance-era costumes and a gift shop. A short walk away on Via Arche Scaligere, Romeo’s House is a privately owned medieval building. Take photos from the outside, where you’ll see a plaque with a quote from Shakespeare’s play.

Discover Verona’s largest church, the gothic Basilica of Saint Anastasia. Inside, see spectacular frescoes and a vaulted ceiling. Admire the Romanesque architecture of the Basilica of San Zeno Maggiore. The church features a rose window, 12th-century bronze doors and 15th-century frescoes, along with a magnificent altarpiece. For history of a different kind, study fossils and rocks at the Civic Museum of Natural History of Verona, located in Palazzo Pompei.

Stroll across the Ponte Pietra, the picturesque bridge that connects the Roman Theater and Verona Cathedral arrive by sunset for the best photos. When it’s time for dinner and drinks, choose a restaurant at the lively Piazza delle Erbe.

Fly to Verona Catullo Airport or arrive from elsewhere in Italy via train. Verona City Centre is easy to explore on foot however, buses and taxis are available.
