"LIKE: Hotel started in late 1800s. Period atmosphere was an educational change compared to modern "hotels". Yet, Strater was up to date in all aspects required to make stay comfortable and thoroughly enjoyable. Shower and bath facilities were especially nice. Location convenient to just about any kind of tourist/ history/ experience, including occasional steam whistle signals (not during sleeping hours) from Steam Locomotive for D&RGW narrow gauge excursion trains to Silverton, Colo. ...

The General Palmer Hotel

8.8 out of 10, Excellent, (1000)
"This is a fun old-timey hotel right in the center of Durango- we liked it because it was Kitschy and fun. The bed was comfortable, the room was clean and large, and the shower was fine. The breakfast was very basic-- like what you would get at a Holiday Inn Express. They did have coffee on each floor though, which was nice. "
