Research shows that hidden fees and additional charges rank as the number one pain point for travelers.1
Starting May 12, 2025, a new U.S. rule will require that all mandatory fees, such as resort fees, cleaning fees or utility fees are included in the price shown up front for travelers booking hotels and vacation rentals.
Understanding how important it is to travelers, Expedia and Hotels.com have shown the total price upfront for years and Vrbo has always included fees in our upfront pricing.
While not much is changing on our sites, here’s what to expect:
On Expedia and Hotels.com:
- Check for the all-in disclaimer: The tax & fee inclusive price seen on the search page is the same at checkout. Look for the ‘Upfront pricing’ pop-up which notes the cost includes taxes and fees.
On Vrbo:
- We have added a ‘No hidden fees’ pop-up feature which notes the price includes fees upfront.
Price can be a make or break when booking travel and travelers deserve to be confident what they see is what they’ll pay.
