Over a third of Aussies (38%) plan to travel during April, taking advantage of the extended public holiday period
1st APRIL, 2025 SYDNEY: As Australia fast approaches Easter and the school holidays, Expedia and Wotif have released the April Travel Outlook, revealing its most popular domestic and international destinations with savvy tips for booking a last-minute getaway.
April is set to be the most popular holiday period of the year, with over a third of Aussies (38%)* planning to travel during the month to make the most of the April school holidays, the Easter long weekend, and ANZAC Public Holiday Day aligning and allowing a 10-day break, for only three days of annual leave.
Internationally, many are making the most of the extended break, with Queenstown, New Zealand, Osaka, Japan and Da Nang, Vietnam witnessing strong year-over-year growth over April, as Expedia research shows two-fifths (40%)** of Aussies want to visit destinations where the dollar stretches further.
Domestically, Aussies are favouring Queensland, with Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast and Cairns taking out the top three spots for most popular April destinations on Wotif. With Southeast Queensland now back open for business following Cyclone Alfred, it’s a great time to show support for the region and local tourism operators.
“While April is set to be a peak travel period, it is not too late to book a last-minute trip. For Aussies who want to avoid the crowds and to get a great deal, our top travel tip is to remain flexible with your travel dates, even the day of the week you travel can make a difference. In Australia, destinations like Launceston, Coffs Harbour and Brisbane offer good value over April. Also, Aussies who bundle their flight and hotel bookings on Expedia or Wotif, can potentially knock off up to $395 on average off the trip***.”

- Best value international destinations to stay in for under $350 a night 10: Travellers can find affordable accommodation in destinations Ho Chi Minh in Vietnam, Bali and Singapore.
