My family has been coming to this hotel for around 17 years when it was The Reserve.We were aware they remodeled and were excited to experience the hotel again. Except we were very disappointed. A few things below…
-Concept - Seems like the hotel has a more “relaxed” concept except the execution of it seems more “cheap and unsophisticated” than “relaxed”.
-Check-In - Given the concept, as soon as you arrive, you do self check-in via a QR code. This was the first impression and was not smooth at all. -Music - Back to the concept. The music is REALLY loud across the resort where you can’t even concentrate and read or do anything. I think they can play the same music just a tad bit lower.
-Food - Quality of food has declined significantly. -Service - Quality of service has also significantly declined. You have to ask for things several times, half the time they forget or bring you wrong things and zero attention to detail. Angela and Chef Rodrigo are EXCELLENT
-Staff - Some of the staff is really nice but some are rude and talk bad about customers to each other in spanish. Also, not professional and say bad words etc…
-Rooms - The rooms are really nice and big. We had two connecting rooms for a family of 4. We did have to call maintenance twice, once for the air not working and the second time for the toilet.
-Beach - The beach use to be at Paradisus which was fine but now it’s on the other side of the beach
It is a shame that this has changed so we will not come back to Zel.

The convenience of the location of Riu Palace was awesome. Everything we needed was right there within walking distance. Restaurants, shopping, Casinos were all within a short walk. The property was kept very clean and well manicured. The roomwe stayed in was fairly clean but needed some minor upgrades. For example, the light fixtures on the wall were pretty oxidized and the metal was peeling I am guessing from the salt water, but wasn't a huge deal. We did have one instance where we lost power and air conditioning in our room for a short time. I called the fron desk and they said someone would be right up, but they never came. Luckily, next to the mini bar, there was a fuse panel and I found the blown fuse, reset it, and we never had another issue. The Wifi is very sporatic and I could see the modem turn on and off multiple times per day, and night up on the wall where it was located. The food at the buffet is good and has something for everyone. If you want to get into the restaurants on site, go early or you won't get in, as they are small and only offer 2 seating per night in which we've seen a lot of guests that were discouraged by this. We went out and had dinner in town when this happened to us 1 night. The satff was very friendly and accomodating. If you want a hut down by the beach, get there early or you won't get 1! They had entertainment every night and the drinks were endless! We had a great time during our stay overall and would go back again without a doubt.

My husband and I went for our Anniversary April 19,2025 to April 24, 2025, will stay longer next visit! Definitely stay at the same resort! The food was amazing and so many choices to choose from.

We had a 4 night stay for our anniversary. It was exactly what we needed. Great relaxation, staff was friendly, food options were great. The rooms were clean and very roomy. Roccio at the pool bar was great !! She was the best.
Beware of being sold an upgrade to excellence club. We were talked into this and payed an extra $100/ night for it and were never able to use it. When we tried, we were always told we didn’t have it with our room and I had to go in a long explanation and show my credit card charge . I feel like we were scammed for that money because everyone gave us weird looks when we said we payed extra. The room we were given with the excellence club upgrade was the exact same room they put us in the beginning, just 4 doors down so we didn’t see any benefits of this. On day of departure our flight was changed so we asked to stay another night and they couldn’t give us an answer said they had to send a message to reservations in Spain and didn’t know when they’d get an answer so we had to book a flight asap and couldn’t wait the undetermined amount of time for a response. Which was also a fight because one desk said we were excellence club and had to deal with them, and excellence club desk said we were not . Overall great trip but I will pick a different resort next time. We made our frustration known and they did nothing to compensate.
