Tee off in the stunning natural setting of the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge Golf Course. In the mid-1920s, roughly 50 teams of horses and 200 men diligently cleared this land of boulders and debris for what would ultimately become one of Canada’s most famous golf courses.
Stanley Thompson, Canada’s master golf course architect, envisioned an 18-hole layout of elevated tee boxes, unusual bunkers, holes with incredible mountain views and broad fairways through virgin forest. He realized his goal in 1925 of creating a treasured golf course that blends naturally with its rugged terrain, incorporating it into the game. About 70 years later, the course underwent a restoration project to return it to its original layout according to Thompson’s blueprints. Visit to appreciate how this successful project gained the course high marks and earned numerous prestigious awards for its challenging layout and spectacular beauty.
Practice before your game at the driving range, just outside the clubhouse, or use the short-game area with a 10,000-square-foot (900-square-meter) putting green, bunkers and chipping and pitching features. Other amenities include on-course beverage service, golf carts included in most daily rates and dining at Thompson’s Terrace, which offers to-go items or seasonal barbecue fare on the patio.
Complimentary shuttle service to the course is available for guests of the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge. Consider staying at the resort to be close to your game and enjoy the other charms of the 700-acre (280-hectare), year-round mountain resort. Chalets and log cabins are connected by serene pathways winding through the grounds and along the banks of Lac Beauvert and the golf course.
After you’ve spent a day on your feet, treat your weary soles to a revitalizing foot massage or opt for a forest therapy treatment featuring a tension-releasing acupressure massage and warm mud mask. When you’re not golfing or paddling on Lac Beauvert, you’re well positioned for exploration of Jasper National Park, the largest national park in the Canadian Rockies.
