The old gal has been around since 1947 so don't expect it not to show wear and tear. But you will find that the staff is friendly and willing to please. Elevators work well so you won't wait long. Perfect access to the ocean. Pool is great. Hotel and rooms are CLEAN but well used. Breakfast is OK but if you want something hot it cost extra. Use the valet parking next door at the Monte Carlo as there is no parking at the hotel, $30 per day and the guys are supper efficient and your car is well cared for. The restaurant attached to the hotel has great food but like anything in Miami it's not cheap. Worth the price and you will get more than you can eat. So, think about sharing a plate. Plenty of chain food within walking distance including a Star Bucks, Pizza Hut, Subway, GF Burger, plus an Italian Restaurant. Publix supermarket is also within walking distance. If you want 4 star living quarters than you will be disappointed. But if you want 5-star service, a clean place to sleep, food close by, great access to the beach and a pool, then she's the place to stay. Remember you came there for the ocean not to sit in your room. Also, they have some pool tables, fuse ball table, and ping pong. They also have a piano that everyone tried playing even if they could not play it properly.
