Wanted to stay longer

We were only there one night, needed to attend a family wedding held at another resort. We had to spend most of our time at the other place and were extremely sorry that we couldn't spend more time at the Island View. We plan to return for our own visit over a long weekend, maybe bring a couple friends. Very nice place, lovely view, friendly and considerate host.

When they say unplug - you really do "unplug" while here. We had perfect weather for fishing, beach time, cool sleeping at night. LOVED the view of the lake from the cabin daily. We actually spent more time in the cabin relaxing than on the lake I think. I'd call it "rustic relaxing" with all the amenities you need. One thing I observed is it is such a safe place for kids to run, explore and play. It's at the end of a road, all the cabins are surrounding the lake and it's a short walk from anywhere from cabin to lake/ boat. I could call out to my daughter from our cabin and she heard me. I could stand out on my deck and see her at the beach. Very nice for today's world. Lisa and John are VERY good hosts. Down to earth and genuine. Only thing I would have changed is a Queen or King Bed. Only thing my daughter (10) would have changed was to have a TV. But it was a great week!

Perfect getaway!

We had a great time. Our cabin was clean and comfortable - perfect for a long weekend. It has a full kitchen, which is nice. The grounds are well maintained. Voyageurs National Park is close by. John and Lisa, the resort owners, are wonderful hosts! We highly recommend this place, and would definitely stay here again.

I can’t say enough good things about the Matthews family and their resort! We had a hiccup before arriving when our cabin was double booked but Lisa took care of it right away. We ended up reserving the Oaks cabin; newest cabin with 2 instead of 3 bedrooms but very spacious living area. This worked out fine for our 2 adults and 4 kids; used 2 twin air mattresses in the living room instead of pull out couch. The kitchen was well stocked with all of the necessities and appliances. The oven needs some work as the door wouldn’t stay shut (ended up propping a chair up to keep it shut and the heat in!). Lisa is now aware and I’m certain it will be fixed! The dishwasher was a bonus! Overall, the condition of the cabin was what I was expecting as a rustic, older, up north resort. The Oaks cabin is very private with its own driveway. Although this may appeal to many people (including my boyfriend), I would have preferred to have another cabin out in the main area, near the large yards so the kids could run, bonfire pit (Oaks didn’t have one), and be able to hear/see the activities going on in the rest of the resort. The Matthews do such a good job of introducing everyone and coordinating activities that I feel we missed out. Nonetheless, the location of the Oaks is very nice for those wanting privacy and it’s really not that far of a walk. The lodge is awesome! Pool table, arcades, books, games, ice cream, etc. John and Lisa are so kind and generous as hosts!

Right next to Pelican Lake

One of the best places I have stayed. Quiet and beautiful scenery. Excellent hosts . I just can't say enough great things about it!!!

Quick stop on way to Canada

Was not told towels were not provided nor sheets for pull out bed. Otherwise, very rustic and homey and owners very nice.
