Getting around Atlanta

Renting a car is the best way to explore Atlanta, although traffic can be heavy. Take public transportation instead and you will still be able to get almost everywhere in the city, though it will take a bit longer. The MARTA rapid rail and bus networks cover all the most popular places for visitors. MARTA trains are faster and more frequent than the buses, but some areas of the city don’t have a station. Visit the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit AuthorityOpens in a new window website. Browse Atlanta rental cars.

Best time to visit

Visit Atlanta in the spring, between March and May, if you can. This is when temperatures are at their most pleasant, and there are lots of outdoor festivals and cultural events to look forward to. Coming to the city in spring also means avoiding the sweltering summer, when room prices have a tendency to climb as high as the temperatures. The city’s hottest month is July, with highs of 90 F (32 C).
