It was nice

Well, let’s just say I was disappointed. I had been reading about this hotel for awhile and looking forward to an exceptional experience. That was not the case. Walking to the front door I noticed the grounds not seem particularly well kept. It’s an OLD building so the floors creak and the doors squeak, the common areas had old musty smelling uncomfortable furniture. I realize it’s a historical old building but it couldn’t hurt to upgrade to some comfortable furniture that is designed to look like it’s from the era. On checking in, the receptionist was not overly friendly or helpful. She did not offer any information about the hotel or the area. I had to ask about breakfast and whether the restaurant was open—it was not open but she gave no explanation about why. Our room was on the third floor which was up two narrow staircases, there’s no elevators. We had one of the two rooms that have a king bed, my husband found it very uncomfortable, it is on the soft side. The bathroom nothing exceptional the amenities offered were one shampoo and conditioner and one body lotion, all in little bottles. There was no hand soap or bodywash, when I asked about it I was told they were on back order. We each had one bath towel, one hand towel and one washclothes, none of which were plush or large. For a hotel that is advertised as rustic luxury, you would expect a little nicer amenities. Each floor had a coffee station but there dirty coffee cups sitting in a tub that no one came to collect.

The elevator was scary. It makes grinding noises when coming to a stop. When I reported this no one got back to me. We took the stairs twice the noise was so obvious and we are in our seventies. On another note; when we couldn't find a medication on checkout day, I called the front desk suspecting someone may have entered our room when we were gone all day, asking for security. I got a recording. We found the medications after leaving a message to see security. We were treated with rude hostility by the desk woman who claimed to be the only "Security" and how offended she was that we would accuse her staff of entering our room. We did not accuse anyone; only requested speaking with security. I apologized for the misunderstanding which was met with indignant acceptance. I am a retired Police Officer and am used to being treated rudely so no big deal I guess. Kind of put a damper on the whole trip though. The elevator needs to be attended. It sounds dangerous.
