Location is close to main downtown area, although you do have to cross a busy road. 555 North Restaurant is located in the hotel and has good food. Brunswick is a nice enough town; Bath is more interesting and closer to some of key attractions.

The Federal is definitely a hidden gem. The room and the common spaces are quintessential Maine. My king premier room was complete with a fireplace. The decor was a piece out of Maine history but also stylish enough to be modern.

It was a joy to stay in a "non-big box" hotel: the room was cozy, the bed was comfortable, the whole space was beautiful, and the whole vibe was wonderful. Delicious coffee was available in the hallway on each floor starting at 6 am--even better! We hope to stay here again!
