The grounds were breath-taking, room was quiet with excellent views, food was delicious, but the best thing about this resort is the staff. It is in terrible condition now- plumbing awful, sheets don’t fit, water intermittent, no airport pick up service until we finally called, pools were awful, outdoor ping pong and pool table covered in mold and not playable, beaches were small and non-swimmable and there were no beach chairs or umbrella. Staff wasn’t helpful unless asked and they were pretty lazy. Guest information was non existent. The only decent thing was the chef was very good. Nature lovers will melt on every spot there. Food - good but extra and not too budgety, coffee - bad. No shopping. The island is 50 years back in time. Bring extra cash to rent a car, a boat. No wifi in most rooms, have to go to the office. Sea water in the shower. We flew there from N.J. via Nassau Bahamas. Then we flew to the Stella Maris Hotel located on Long Island in the Bahamas east of Florida the beaches run from the north to south. Like most of these remote islands, the roads are in typical island condition, ie. pot holes and unpaved roads. There are rocky beaches and choppy seas on the east side, the west side are white fine sand stretches with towering palms. The water is calm and you walk a considerable distance in shallow water. There are lot's of spots for beach combing. Stella Maris Hotel near the northern part of the island. The hotel has a nice bar and dining room and the staff are VERY friendly and accommodating. The food was freshly prepared and delicious.
