This is a resort that is best suited for a family get away. It is a great place to go and detox from the chaos of the normal rat race and have beautiful bonding moments with the family. We took the kids for a 5 day break and thoroughly enjoyed it.

We loved this property for there easy beach access, great service but most of all the kid friendly activities they had. From water park features, to the lazy river, pool slides, and kid zone where you can drop your kids off for a fun time. The beauty of the surroundings was unmatched. Great value for a family vacation in Muscat

The hotel is really good and is one of the best value offers for a family vacation in Muscat. The facilities are really good in terms of the pools and beach. Food is good quality, while the kids portions could be 20% bigger compared to what is usually served in the UAE for example. Wifi works well except some social media like Telegraph is blocked.

It’s a beautiful resort but I wish I had known that Al Waha side is mainly for families. We were not expecting lots of screaming kids the entire time. I would have stayed at Al Bandhar or Al Husn. The food was excellent and the service was good but slow. Especially ordering coffee and drinks.

I really enjoyed myself. The complex is amazing. The food is always good. One problem. The flies n the mosquitoes were very bad. I had to get an allergy injection from the onsite clinic after the normal allergy meds didn’t help the pain swelling n itching. So if you come to this property make sure you bring mosquito repellent and allergy medications.

This hotel has a spectacular location but feels a little dated and tired. The rooms are comfortable but need a remodel to keep up with the rest of the UAE luxury experince. The food is ok but fairly mid for what you pay (the prices are very high, feels like airport rules as there are no other choices nearby) the amenities eg gym, tennis courts, pool and lazy river are great. I think the kids club needs a revamp, feel more like babysitting vs a kids club experience. I would have loved it to have more of an Oman vibe, felt like any hotel around the world. I do think any luxury hotel brand that comes from the UAE will outpace this place very quickly if they dont update. I strongly recommend getting a cab to Oman Mall, great shopping and food choices. Snow Oman was a must do experience, especially to have dinner with the penguins, it was a highlight of the whole trip. Would visit Oman again but maybe find a different luxury hotel next time.

I enjoyed my stay at the Shangri-La Barr Al Jissah, Muscat. The view of the sea from my balcony was stunning. The room was nice, but the furniture was a little warped (probably from the humidity from the sea). I had one bad experience with the Samba restaurant for lunch and I would suggest parents not allow their children to serve themselves at breakfast. Some children were using their hands to take foods like bread vice using tongs. This is not sanitary. Also, I think someone was smoking on a balcony below me, as I could smell strong cigarette smoke while sitting on my balcony. That said, I enjoyed my stay at the hotel. Note: there is an adults-only property at Shangri-La.

Some equipment like the floor carpets are getting old. otherwise, the hotel is very well kept. Staff is super kind: saying hello, smiling, making way. One gardener came to me, asking if it was ok for him to mow the lawn behind our chairs (he needed five minutes, asked for permission). In the restaurant though, there was a big number of staff but ineffective, running all directions, unorganised. For one evening I had to go in person to the restaurant to make my reservation for the evening dinner, as on the phone, the first person reached refused to passed me the restaurant (?). So I made the reservation in person, at the restaurant. but coming back at dinner time, the staff member had not put my name on the list, and it was a big mess to give me and my family a table.

HOTEL DOES NOT HONOR ONEKEY BENEFITS

I booked a trip here recently and was entitled to a free room upgrade and food/beverage credit as promised by hotels.com. Neither were honored at check in or in subsequent follow up (not sure if this is the hotel or hotel.com's fault), but it is all the more egregious because I was aggressively "upsold" to a bigger room for a fee upon check-in, so clearly the upgrade was available. The good: Most of the staff very polite and friendly. The dining options were good and varied. The outdoor features of the property are generally well maintained. The price is reasonable, but just know this is in no way a 5-star resort, perhaps 3-4. The ugly: While the (paid-for upgraded) room was spacious, it was SEVERELY dated and not worthy of the Shangri-La brand. The couches and chairs showed many signs of scratches and wear. There were no updated plug-in connections for USB, etc. that you will now commonly find at lesser quality properties.

The hotel was amazing with the best staff ever, every attention to detail was catered. However it did get boring only eating in the same restaurant every night. There were no evening activities on offer so be prepared for many early nights. On the upside - the gym and spa is fantastic.
