Old Hotel with a very small Onsen
Booked this hotel because I was hoping to enjoy onsen in a traditional Japanese setting. Arrived at 2pm, but the staff insisted that I pay for an extra 1,296 yen for early check in. It was rainy outside and I was carrying my luggage so I had no choice. Onsen is really small - about 3*4m, more like a bathtub. Breakfast is Japanese style and very delicious.
Japanese-style (futon) room comfortable, clean and included sitting area overlooking garden. Delicious Japanese-style breakfast. Indoor onsen. We are walkers so walked 15-20 min from the Nishitetsu station. Shorter walk to bus stop to Saga, also to Donko boats, canals, and other Yanagawa sightseeing locations. Staff spoke limited English but this was not any different than others places in Kyushu. Names of guests are posted at front desk as welcome. Recommend this mid-level ryokan for a good value, good experience.
reception spoke fluent English so it was very easy to check in. Rooms are clean with traditional style interior. Breakfast was delicious and we overall had a very pleasant stay.
