Awesome boutique hotel next to the University of Coimbra. The decor followed the theme of literature and knowledge. The courtyard was great. Nice restaurant and breakfast buffet. Only note is that the rooms have 3 steps up from the sitting area to the bed, so not for the mobility impaired. Rooms are spacious, have a kitchenette in the room, and awesome views of the city.

There are several nice places on the property to relax, see the views, or have a bite to eat. It’s thoughtfully arranged. The breakfast buffet is excellent, with choices to address everyone’s wants. Staff is very helpful and knowledgeable. Nearby is the botanical garden, a treat to wander through.

The location of the hotel is perfect. Right next to Biblioteca Joanina! Talk about a short walk to a national monument! Great restaurants are close by including the restaurant at the hotel. It was easy to walk the whole city and see and do everything we had on our list. The rooftop deck had amazing views too. The patio outside the restaurant was also very comfortable and inviting. They even have a pet turtle in a water feature in the patio area.

Beautiful boutique hotel with excellent service and a fantastic location—very close to everything. The only downside is that parking is limited. Also, be aware that the food at the hotel restaurant is extremely salty. However, that seems to be a common theme throughout Portugal, except in the Douro Valley region for some reason.

The staff were great. They helped us find a parking spot, told us how to get around, mixed some great Negronis for our night cap, fabulous breakfast and an explained how to navigate out of this beautiful town. The room and bed made for a much needed rest on our road trip through Portugal.
