Gourmet burgers, El Salvadorian pupusas and fresh oysters are among the delicacies in a covered market dating back to the early 1900s.

The Grand Central Market is an iconic covered complex filled with stylish food stalls serving modern and elegant culinary delights. It has a communal feel, allowing a glimpse into the blend of cultures and traditions in Downtown Los Angeles. Wander through the alleys of the market and be enticed by the neon signs labeling each stall.

Consider the eclectic range of food cultures and origins in the market, including Mexican, Middle Eastern and Japanese specialties. Bring your family and spoil your little ones with ice cream or tacos. Oysters and burritos are among the famous dishes in this iconic establishment, which has been a stalwart of Downtown Los Angeles since 1917.

Stop for a burger at the Belcampo Meat Co. and try the El Salvadorian flatbread at Sarita’s Pupuseria. The DTLA Cheese and Kitchen has a great range of cheeses, while artisanal pizzas are served with shishito peppers in the Olio GCM Wood Fired Pizzeria.

Purchase fresh fruits, vegetables, cheese and other ingredients to use in a picnic at nearby Grand Park or Pershing Square.

Attend one of the many events that are hosted at this covered market. These range from trivia nights and art fairs to used-book markets and date nights.

Note that individual stalls and restaurants have their own opening times. Most establishments tend to stay open later Thursday through Saturday. The site is popular and can get fairly busy on weekends.

The Grand Central Market stands between the Downtown Los Angeles area and the Chinatown district. Ride the metro to the Civic Center/Grand Park station and walk south for a few minutes. You can also get here by bus or walk from Union Station. While you’re in the district, check out surrounding attractions such as the Japanese American National Museum, the Geffen Contemporary at MOCA and the Walk Disney Concert Hall.
