The resort and grounds are absolutely stunning — the perfect place to relax and reset with a peaceful, restorative atmosphere. Most of the staff were a pleasure and made our stay feel special, though we did have 1–2 interactions where it felt like we were a bother for asking for anything. That’s disappointing anywhere, but especially on a $3k+ per night trip. When booking, I chose a suite specifically for its forest view. We came to Big Sur to be surrounded by giant trees. At check-in, we were told we’d been “upgraded” to a Pacific view suite. While well-intentioned, it wasn’t what we came for. From the suite we couldn’t see the water, the outdoor furniture wasn’t comfortable enough to enjoy, and it lacked the lounge chairs/hammock the original suite had advertised. We asked to move back to our booked room but were told the property was fully committed. I understand that happens, but it was frustrating to have our experience shifted by a change we didn’t request. Overall, Alila Ventana Big Sur is a breathtaking property with (mostly) a wonderful team. But if you’re going for a specific experience — like the forest views we wanted — make sure your reservation is honored as booked. At this level, the details really matter.

Nature stay in Big Sur

This is a great facility with rooms distributed in the forest. Very compassionate to nature. Nice hammock on the balcony next to the redwoods. Food at restaurant fresh and well prepared. Good degree of cleanliness. Only issue was that may mobile phones would not connect to the router in my room, Only one night stay so didn't sort it out.

Wow , I was blown away but this resort. From views, to friendly and helpful staff, to cleanliness of the room. Had massage as well and absolutely loved it. The gourmet meals were so delicious and to my surprise they were all included in your stay, breakfast, lunch and dinner. If you are looking for a quiet romantic getaway this place is a must! I will definitely come back. I don’t usually write reviews but i was so impressed buy this hotel. Every detail was taught through. Loved it ♥️

The property is in an incredible setting. The facility itself is beautiful. It is, however, very expensive. The biggest drawback is the food. Very uneven in quality. Breakfasts are good, other food is mediocre. In spite of that, I had an amazing time.

Check in took FOREVER. Instructions for reception were unclear. Our room wasn’t ready at check in time, and when we received our key cards, they didn’t work! The key cards would deactivate multiple times during our stay as well, and replacements were needed each time. Stay here for the stunning environment and views, but expect some operational/management issues.

Amazing property. Needs better device.

The resort is gorgeous. The staff very friendly. But they are short staffed. Calls to room service always got an answering machine. One bartender for full bar waiting on drinks, etc. Service was not at the level you expect for such a top resort.

Check in was complicated as the person operating the gate didn't recognize my name and only after buzzing twice were we allowed in. Property is beautiful but room did not have a fireplace as described and we could hear our neighbors making "noises" (yuck!). The nature walk with Brian is a must! He is a great host and this hike followed by a nice stay in the hot tub was highlight.

So, I don’t like crabby reviewers who nitpick on smaller issues etc. I read the reviews on ventana and they were mixed but I booked anyway. Here’s the deal. The area is expensive. I don’t generally spend 1100 a night on a hotel so when I do, I expect it to be top notch. This was not. I would have paid 500-600 a night no problem and felt like I got my money’s worth. It has beautiful views, nice pools, the room was good. The spa was really a check in place more than a spa. The messages were outdoors and excellent (at 200/piece plus tip).

I was told years ago, if I ever wanted a romantic getaway, ave Rana was the right place to indulge in a splurge. My husband and I arrived here for our 3 year wedding anniversary and as soon as we drove up, we were floored by the service and outright beauty of the property. Check in includes a welcome wine and cheese (SO yummy) and our room was immaculate. We took a walk around the grounds and later soaked in the Japanese Bath House before dinner. Morning checkout is later that usual, so even one nights stay felt more than it was. We woke up early in that summer morning and went for a swim in both pools. It was only us at 8am and it was INCREDIBLE. Highly recommend. I can’t wait to come back!

Beautiful property exceeded our expectations. I heard there were a lot of negative reviews after we arrived and can’t imagine what anyone could complain about. Ventana was as close to heaven as I’ve ever been.

Amazing get away!

This is an amazing location offering everything you could need for your stay. My girlfriend and I went up for a weeks get away and were super impressed. The rooms were large and very luxurious. They have serval places to eat and swim in (would recommend the Japanese bathhouse) . Massage and relaxation were AMAZING ! Will be going back.
