The property was gorgeous and the staff could not have been more helpful. We arrived and were met by staff who took care of our arrival and explained the various baths to us. The food was amazing and plentiful. The private baths were clean and tranquil. Sitting in the hot spring while listening to the river below was an experience I will not soon forget. Add that to the beautiful scenery and it was a trip to be remembered.

I wish I never had to leave. I don't remember the last time I felt that relaxed when I was in my own private Onsen. And the shear beauty of the location as well. It was simply serene! The staff put my name on everything, including the menu for dinner. There was also a museum on the first floor teaching the history of onsens. All and all, an absolutely amazing experience!!!

Truly a once in a lifetime experience. We were welcomed and had our car valeted, our bags carried to our room and were shown the property. Every single staff member was friendly and so helpful and made sure our stay was fantastic. They also upgraded us to a larger room with a balcony that was closer to the baths which was wonderful. My husband and I have tattoos which are not allowed in the public baths but we had no issue finding times to use the private baths during our stay. The meals were wonderful, thoughtfully served and added to the entire experience. Will reccomend to everyone going to Japan and wants a completely immersive and peaceful experience of a traditional ryokan stay.

Outstanding stay at Nishiyama Onsen Keiunkan! The property was larger and more updated than I was expecting- including a choice of 6 different onsen baths to use (2 private and the other 4 alternating between men/women depending on the time of day). The staff were all without fault and absolutely lovely and despite my limited Japanese there we no issues communicating. Complimentary shuttle pick-up at Minobu Station for the 1hr drive to the property. High quality dinner and large Japanese breakfast provided in a private dining room. Overall, an exceptional stay and I feel very privileged to have the opportunity to stay at this 1300+ year old property.

If you are wanting a truly unique experience of a Japanese oven in the most natural of settings then this place is magnificent. The dinner and breakfast is something to be experienced and the onsen baths are awesome overlooking nothing but nature.

The springs were amazing and very warm! The staff while serving the meals was top-notch! If you have the opportunity I'd suggest staying for more than 1 day and doing some hiking/exploring along the river. Beautiful scenery!

This was one of the best experiences I’ve had traveling. The onsen was incredibly beautiful, clean, and serene, and the staff were extremely attentive and helpful. The food especially stood out as one of the best meals I’ve had in Japan. I highly, highly recommend this onsen!

A very enjoyable experience as the oldest hotel in the world. The food is a bit intense for foreigners, but excellently presented and flavorful nonetheless. Extremely professional staff. The room has beautiful scenery of the river and a cozy interior space.

Absolutely stunning property! Might as well be out of a movie or painting. The staff was incredibly hospitable and an impressive number spoke English. We had no trouble reserving a beautiful private onsen for our desired time. Dinner and breakfast are expansive and potentially adventurous for those not accustomed to more traditional Japanese food. Possibly the best place in the world to come meditate and relax.

The hotel and facilities were amazing

The hotel and facilities were amazing, and the staff was very nice and helpful. It is a bit away from any public transportation, but the hotel has a shuttlebus, we could use to get to the station, so that was convenient. We highly recommend going here for some relaxation and beautiful scenery. A hidden gem!

We had a very enjoyable stay and plan to go back. Foreigners should be prepared to have very sumptuous traditional Japanese meals. The building is getting a little run down, but it's still very nice. The baths are wonderful.
