The owners of this boutique hotel have put much effort into making it a special place that exudes calm and kindness. The staff is friendly and helpful. The rooms are comfortable and quiet at night (the walls are thick, so one doesn't hear the neighbors). The interor garden with a pool is a lovely refuge. The hotel is close to many good restaurants and just a short walk to the lovely water of the lagoon. Bacalar’s Lagoon of (at least) Seven Colors – robin egg blue, azure, blue/gray, azul, turquoise, aquamarine, cobalt blue – is nothing less than magical and mystical. But Casa Chukum was pure delight. We were welcomed like family, placed in a spacious second floor room with balcony and stairway to the roof deck, king size bed, very nice bathroom – instant comfort. The breakfast offerings from constant coffee to fruit and juices and a fantastic menu of Mexican and American breakfast favorites was wonderful. The boat ride the staff arranged with Captain George on the good sailboat Harmony was a highlight. Three hours sailing the lagoon, visiting the cenotes feeding the lagoon, swimming in a couple different locations, getting to view a sunset – well, very special indeed.
