a great pave for a stay in whitby. easy walking to the town centre and harbour. staff very friendy and helpful. rooms look a little dated. we had a sea view and it was awesome!

Loved staying here.The property is old as it was built in the 1870s and some people may say needs updating but our room was lovely overlooking the sea, beds comfotable with modern shower room with exra heater in room if you needed it. Staff are really friendly and helpful. Meals in dining area are lovely and had a good singer on saturday night in bar area.close to sea and only short walk to shops.

This property is very tired looking/dated. There is a lack of parking and the breakfast was awful. The location is excellent and the staff lovely.

In great need of restoration. The lift was filthy and in need of a good clean. The single Ben in room 121 needs replacing or repairing. Staff wasn’t over friendly. Breakfast was good

Could not fault the Hotel, the staff were very helpful couldn't do enough for you, nothing was too much trouble for them the breakfast was lovely and our view from the window was amazing looking out at sea. We're hoping to come back in the summer time 😉

The location was good and views from the lounge were excellent. Staff were helpful and friendly. Option to park the car was convenient. Room was basic but had everything we required (apart from the horrible view from our window).

Overall great stuff for the price. All about the view of the harbour, Abbey, town and beyond. Fabulous people and sea watching spot. Only thing is very cold in cold weather due to single pane windows. Memorable stay. View is 5 stars!

The Royal is a beautiful wonderful hotel, but your reception, dinning , staff are not at all professional. The Bar staff was friendly and the service was very good . Other than that it was a comfortable.

Hotel is situated in an ideal location to explore Whitby. Wonderful views (if the room allows). Staff are great very personable and helpful. The hotel itself could do with a lot of TLC, the windows in my room looked as though they were ready to fall out, the frames were rotten.

Lovely spacious room, with huge windows to a stunning sea view. Dog friendly. Nice welcoming bar area and staff. Breakfast was ok, we dined out for dinner as we had heard the food at the hotel wasn’t very good, but so many more options on the doorstep. Overall a great place to stay.

My stay was very good. Clean room and great staff service all round, throughout my stay. The only criticism is that the hotel is in need of an extensive refurbishment.

The most obnoxious and rude staff in hospitality
We had our personal belongings removed from our room 2 nights into a three night stay and just to have the room key snatched from our hand and said don’t know where are things are. Simply told on our return to the hotel without any prior communication that our booking was finished and there were no rooms. Despite proving our reservation was for 3 nights not two as we had already paid. The reception staff were unreasonable and wouldn’t explain any reasoning with any sort of decorum or professionalism. Simply horribly and abruptly. When our Compaynt Managing Director called to resolve she simply refused him access to discuss with the shift manager and wouldn’t provide any justification or reason and simply left him on hold permanently. Really disgusting behavior, people like that do not deserve a job never mind working in a customer service role in hospitality. Please please do not stay at this hotel…..!!!!

Adequate
This is a 3* hotel, and it doesn't deserve more. Adequate is the best adjective I can find. Room was a good size and clean, though my partner said his bed sheets smelt 'musty'. The decor in public rooms is a bit drab and in need of an upgrade. I went to the Ladies toilets and 3 of the 4 were labelled 'out of order'. When we arrived the lift was out of order, though fixed by morning. Breakfast was, well 'adequate', the scambled eggs solid, good bacon, tinned fruit.

She’s an old lady this building, but she’s still got class! We had a nice clean standard room with a really comfy bed, a great breakfast and friendly helpful staff. Will definitely be back!

Perfect room with a small shower
An incredible hotel with a perfect view of the Abbey, which is exactly what I was looking for. The only disappointment was the shower, at 6 1/2 foot I am always critical of the bed an shower. In this case the bed was perfect and I could fit under the shower, but I filled the shower cubicle making moving in it very difficult and rather claustrophobic. It would have been better to either put a shower in the bath or remove the bath and install a bigger shower cubicle.

Nice stay at the royal hotel, friendly staff, perfect for weekends away with the dog. Room was very large and had an amazing view off Whitby. Bathroom had a bit of a smell possibly the drains, not sure; wasn’t overwhelming enough to complain about.

Updated rooms, but tired hotel
Overall, the hotel was very comfortable. The radiator in the bathroom needs a good hoover and dust and there were a few odd hairs in the shower. The hotel looks tired and needs some TLC, but the rooms must have recently been updated. Breakfast was very good, lots of choice. Location is great for exploring the town too

Really nice stay, would recommend
While the hotel needs a general refurbishment, they are working really well with what they have, and are maintaining good standards. Reception staff very friendly on arrival. Stayed in room 105 Superior Double Room, Sea View. It was a large room and of a good standard for the price paid.. I would definitely stay again if I had this room. Didn't use the restaurant, but it looked nice and had plenty of customers.
