Travel Guide
Penticton featuring landscape views, a lake or waterhole and a small town or village
Discover the heart of Okanagan’s wine-growing region in this pretty little city, situated between two lakes in the cradle of vineyard-clad highlands.

With its fine wines, fresh produce and acclaimed restaurants, Penticton is staking a place in British Columbia’s culinary map. A long-time favorite as a summer vacation spot, Penticton’s appeal is broadening to make the lakeside city a four-season destination. Explore galleries and museums showcasing regional art and history, visit charming venues to see symphonies, plays and concerts and sample vintages in some of the city’s renowned wineries.

Get acquainted with the city’s leafy streets and explore its downtown area on foot. Stop by the Penticton Visitor Center to find out what’s happening during your visit. Stroll through the Penticton Farmers’ Market to sample some of the region’s fresh produce or have lunch in one of the local restaurants, many of which serve dishes that showcase local and seasonal produce.

Wander down to Okanagan Beach to see an eclectic array of historic architecture on the lakeside. You can also visit the south-side shores of Skaha Lake. Both lakes offer plenty of opportunities for swimming, boating, kitesurfing and windsurfing. You’ll see pine-studded mountain spurs speckled with granite outcroppings beyond Penticton’s fertile pastoral landscape. Take a tour of the wine-growing region and find over 40 wineries within an easy drive from the city. Sample award-winning reds, whites and fruit wines.

Head out into the Okanagan Highlands to see stunning lakes and forested reserves. Pitch a tent or drop a fishing line and hook trout. Hike or cycle along the Kettle Valley Rail Trail or the Three Blind Mice Trail. Get fitted with rock-climbing equipment to take on the precipitous Skaha Bluffs. Snowfall in Penticton opens up the city’s downhill skiing slopes, cross-country ski trails and snowshoe hikes. Don’t miss seeing a panoramic lookout over the city and its lattices of vineyards and orchards from the top of Munson Mountain.

Penticton is located in south-central British Columbia. The city has an extensive bus transit system and easy access to major highways. Fly to the city’s regional airport from Vancouver International Airport or connect with Greyhound buses.

Charming wineries, excellent restaurants and picturesque lakes make Penticton a year-round destination.
