Orca House on Dugualla Bay

Our calendar is updated in real-time & our nightly rates are accurately displayed. Simply enter your desired dates and click 'Book Now!'

This three-bedroom, two-bathroom home in Oak Harbor is everything you're looking for in a Whidbey Island escape, offering an iconic Pacific Northwest setting with spectacular, unobstructed views of Dugualla Bay and the snow-capped peak of Mt. Baker. The windows strategically placed throughout the house allow you to take in a commanding view of the water whether you're laying in bed, reclining on the sofas in the living room, preparing dinner in the open kitchen, or soaking in the master bathroom's jetted bathtub at the end of the day.

The living space is open and full of sunlight, with an airy great room that brings together the living room, the kitchen, and the dining room. Use stainless steel appliances to whip up stacks of pancakes each morning, sit down to eat at the spacious table or the breakfast bar, and bring your coffee outside to the deck to breathe in the fresh ocean air. You'll be able to walk to the community beach to collect stones and watch for local otters, with a gas grill and a dining set waiting outside on the deck for your return. Toss the day's clothes in the washer/dryer and settle in in the living room to read, watch a movie, or peer through the telescope in search of passing orcas. At night, you'll have your choice of three bedrooms, including a master suite with its own gas fireplace, sliding doors that lead outside to the deck, and a bathroom with both a shower and a jetted tub with a view of the water. Two more bedrooms have a queen-size bed and a double bed, respectively, with a second full bathroom off the hallway.

What's nearby:
This home sits just above the shores of Dugualla Bay, a short distance off Route 20 on the east side of Whidbey Island. You'll be immediately north of Dugualla State Park, which includes a handful of hiking trails that meander along the shoreline and through alder groves and wetlands, and six miles southeast of Deception Pass State Park, perhaps the crown jewel of the Washington state park system with its iconic bridge and gorgeous trails and beaches. The bustling center of downtown Oak Harbor, where you can find everything from groceries to fantastic bagels at Whidbey Island Bagel Factory, is six miles southwest, while Naval Air Station Whidbey Island is only four miles west.

Parking notes: There is free parking available for 4 vehicles.

Very relaxing
This is a lovely home with a beautiful view of the Bay. In spite of the size of the living room (huge), it is very cozy. Well-appointed with tons of dishes, glasses and silverware, as well as most of the everyday utensils. We very much enjoyed our stay. That being said, there are a few things that could use improvement. The house definitely needs some TLC. The brick sidewalk to the house is overgrown with clumps of grass and is very unattractive and not indicative of the interior of the house. Once inside, there is a small tiled entryway and then a light-colored carpet throughout the house. On a table well inside the room is a sign to remove your shoes. It needs to be on the front door or right inside the door. The living room is huge with very large windows across it with a spectacular view of the bay. However, one of these large double-paned windows has failed and it really does spoil the view. The shade for it was drawn when we arrived and after opening it, we also left it drawn. The hall bathroom was not heated, but worse, the fiberglass shower surround does not have the usual safety bar and when I entered it, I nearly slipped on the very slick tub floor. The master bath has a slate-type tile and some of the grout has broken up in it and bits of it come off on one's feet. My sister had bits of it in her shoe. I have more to say but am running out of space.

Long weekend
The view was beautiful and the kitchen was wonderful to cook in. The bed we slept in was very comfortable. However, the vacuuming was not done well, nor was the dusting. There were several lights that were burned out and the fireplace did not work.

Quiet weekend away
Loved this location for a quiet weekend getaway. Short drive to cute downtown Oak Harbor and stunning water views. Enjoyed a long soak in the jacuzzi tub and meals in the well stocked kitchen. Would consider again for a visit to Whidbey Island.

Excellent view and location
Negatives: 1. The large left-side window off the main living area has moisture trapped inside. This is a double-pane window whose seal between two pieces of glass has failed. Ultimately, this window should be replaced. The right-side window shows off the excellent view of the harbor and mountains. The left side is annoying, and this can be tempered by closing the blind. 2. The toilet seat in the secondary bathroom needs to be replaced. 3. The fireplace in the master bedroom is non-functional because there is no propane tank connected to the external gas line. Positives: 1. The home has an exceptional view and location, and its elevation allows for an expansive view of the horizon. 2. The home was clean and tidy when we arrived. All the appliances were functional, and it felt like “home”. 3. The pantry contained a reasonable supply of spices, oils, and dry goods. The refrigerator was completely empty.

Spectacular view, spacious home.
We were so pleasantly surprised to arrive a a spotlessly clean house with everything one would need to make a stay excellent. Plenty of dishes, cooking pots, utensils, games, books, and puzzles plus the nice touches of hand soap in bathrooms, binoculars on the window sill, and a clean BBQ on the very large deck. Lots of extra seating and the six of us could spread out. We can’t wait to return! A couple of suggestions for the owners would be attention to master bath tile floor grouting and changing the double bed in bedroom three to a queen or two twin beds.
