House with Stunning Ocean View

This home is a welcoming retreat for artists and anyone who values quiet and seclusion. It is decorated in an eclectic mix of antique items (including a cannister set from the 1880's once belonging to my great-grandparents in the Netherlands) to original works of modern art. The open concept mini home was renovated in 2021/22 to provide everything you could hope for in a vacation home: A/C, updated kitchen, sliding doors to a huge screen room, woodstove and ensuite bathroom. Please note - the house is on a steep hill so if you are towing a heavy trailer, or your vehicle needs a brake job - this may not be the rental for you.

Great place!
Wonderful, small place which was exactly what we were looking for. We used it as a base to explore Cape Breton Trail. Master bedroom very nice en suite. Spare bedroom very small. Great woodburning stove! And view was nice.

Mulgrave, NS visit
Well kept, older modular home. The place grew on me. It was early spring so the straight was readily visible. The driveway is quite steep. We didn't have any trouble getting up but it not for the faint of heart. The gas grill was a great feature. Wifi worked well. We visited "Authentic Seacoast"/Rare bird brewing and had a great time.

An inviting sanctuary
We stayed 26 nights with our dog. The cottage itself was clean, up to date and well outfitted (new, soft beds!). The property is very private, heavily wooded and with great sight lines to the water. It is actually located in Steep Creek, about 4-5 miles from Mulgrave proper (and the nearest coffee shop). Google has it wrong. The sole road there (Rte 344) doesn't have much of a shoulder so we had to drive everywhere, including for dog walks. Having an electrical outlet (lighting) on the porch and a couple of folding chairs to sit outside (the weather was lovely) would be plusses. Don't overlook the 5km trail in Mulgrave and extensive trails in Port Hawkesbury; the Cove Motel on the water in nearby Aulds Cove is a good choice for a superior meal.

Cottage with water view
The cottage was perfect for taking daily outings to the surrounding area including an easy access to the Cabot trail. The house was super clean. We were even greeted with a bald eagle fly by on arrival. As other reviews have noted, be sure to stop by the Front Porch for coffee and goodies.

Lovely private house with beautiful views
Our stay at Steep Creek was very enjoyable and relaxing. The house was clean, tidy, and in great condition. Looks like there have been many upgrades done inside and out. Karen read one of Rennys books (Garden Girl) while we were there and really liked the book. We would not hesitate to recommend this home. Thanks for sharing Woodsong cottage Renny. Karen and Gary

Nice place but need to replace the beds. Really liked having two washrooms for four adults. It was unfortunate that it rained so much. I would rent again if I was coming back to the area.

Great launch point for our exploration.
Renny’s place is exactly as advertised. Great view and excellent positioning for our daylong exploration. Renny provided some excellent insight into nearby places (beaches and an island) to visit. We particularly liked the beach she recommended (Point Michaud). A beautiful and tranquil Nova Scotia beach. One place we enjoyed that we happened upon was the Musgrave Museum. The gentleman who runs the facility was a true pleasure to visit with and learn some history about the surrounding area. We found Renny’s place to offer good value and a great base for our daily pursuits.

A wonderful rental
This was an amazing trip. Itall started with this rental. After one day, we considered it home, not just a place to stay. The house was very clean and well stocked. We brought some stuff that we didn't need to because it was so well stocked. The internet was awesome for being away from major centers. The beds were comfortable, There was not one thing I wouldn't give 5 stars to (except the driveway which was a 3 just because it was steep). It was close to everything we wanted (Cape Breton) and we found a lovely little cafe in Mulgrave (The Front Porch) which was great for breakfast. And the stunning ocean view? The view from the screened porch was awesome. First day saw multiple Bald Eagles. The ultimate compliment I could give this rental? I would absolutely go back!

Perfect Get-a-way
Woodsong Cottage was a quaint home away from home. Very clean and perfect location for meeting up with our friends who have recently moved to the Canso Strait Area. Having this cottage as our jumping off point to explore the area was perfect. Yes the driveway is quite steep but our truck and trailer had no issues. Bringing our ATV's to explore the local trails was great and lots of room to offload/reload at the cottage. Renny was super great to communicate with and we met her property manager, Mary and her husband, when they stopped in to make sure we accessed the property ok - thanks for the early admittance to use the facilities - the drive from NB was a stretch! Thank you again for a great little get-a-way, we only wish we could have stayed longer!

Amazing
We had an awesome time staying at Renny’s cottage. It was so clean and had everything we needed. Renny was always quick to respond and assisted us immediately with any questions we had. Although we weren’t there much in the day we still managed to truly enjoy the property. I can’t say anything negative about our stay here, it was truly amazing and we will never forget it!!

Clean, secluded, good location for our purposes
Very clean, perfect for our purposes, which was to take day trips to 1) Cape Breton, 2) PEI, 3) Halifax. We didn't remain during the day, we were always gone. We mainly just slept there. If you can, go to Charlene's Bayside Diner on the road to Sydney - the very best seafood chowder I have ever had. We love ferries; and there are several nearby. We saw a heron, eagles, a fox, but no moose on this trip. The drive is steep but no problem for our car, a Honda Clarity - I suggest staying as much to the left as you can in the bottom half of the drive, as there are some large-ish rocks that will kick up in the right lane. But no harm done.

Beautiful spot
This was a great spot! Everything was perfect and we felt we were living in the lap of luxury. The view from the screened in deck was awesome and so restful watching the water traffic. The linens and kitchen facilities were top notch. We stayed here as a jumping off point for a tour of Cape Breton Island- perfect. Highly recommended!

Sweet cottage by the ocean
We truly enjoyed our stay at the Woodsong Cottage. We were fortunate to have only sunny days which made the experience even nicer. The long walks along the ocean shore in the beautiful village where the cottage is, made the trip really worthwhile. We arrived at Woodsong around midnight and thanks to the very detailed directions provided by Renny we found the cottage right away. The cottage is as described and more. Very comfortable (especially the recliner white leather sofa on which we took many naps), spacious and with everything that’s needed to make your stay more than enjoyable. From morning coffees on the screened porch watching the sun rise and breathing the morning fresh sea like air, to quiet and sometimes cool evenings, our stay at the cottage was exactly what we were looking and hoping for after last two “not so normal “ years: decompress, forget the world and relax. The cottage is within 20 minutes drive to Port Hawksbury a sweet little town where you can find few different grocery stores, restaurants and fast foods. We however discovered the local coffee shop, run by two amazing ladies, in Mulgrave “The front porch” which we absolutely loved. Every baked product sold there is home made and let me tell you, as a passionate baker, they are the best I ever tasted anywhere in the world I traveled. Our favourites were the white chocolate raspberry scone and the cheese scone. The coffee was amazing too. If you ever around Mulgrave or on the way to Cape Breton don’t hesitate to visit “The front porch “. You will not regret it. Renny recommended us to go to Port Shoreham beach, just about 25 min away from the cottage and so we did. We loved the beach and so did our two huskies. They have not been to the ocean before 😊. At the cottage I discovered the books written by Renny. I also discovered I needed eye glasses! I started reading “Sea child” and loved it, however not been able to finish it due to no glasses! So I’m now so curious to know how it ends…Amazon here we come with another order 😂. So all that remains to be said is: “Thank you, Renny!”. This was the exact kind of holiday we needed!
