Get back to nature for serenity and fun. Hike the many trails and mountains, rock climb secluded shorelines, pick wild blueberries and raspberries, or fish for bass, pike, muskie and rainbow trout. Photograph or paint your scenic surroundings. You will be staying ion Jumbo Island which is centrally located in McGregor Bay for trips around the bay or just relax on the docks or in the water.

Accommodation
The log cottage has the following sleeping accommodations, which can sleep 12. One queen size bed in the main bedroom and two bunk beds, one double bed, two single beds all in separate bedrooms. Additional beds in sun porch. The log building has lots of history where famous people have visited over the years. In its glory President Roosevelt visited in 1948. The Newmans were said to visit frequently as they were friends of the owners.

The kitchen has an electric stove, coffee maker, fridge, freezer and toaster. There is also a propane barbecue. Living room boasts a big rock fireplace which heats the building.. Water is pumped to the cottage by electric pump. There is a large electric hot water tank. The water is filtered but we do recommend boiling it or bringing bottled drinking water. Fantastic Location
Beautiful log cabin, very well stocked kitchen, great fishing; unfortunate lack of deep cleaning with resulting mice infestation. Could do with a clear out of broken furniture, out of date food, and an updated VRBO listing of what is really available (ie. equipped with wifi and useful winch to bring goods up from the dock but NO linens/blankets/towels, and only 3 adult life jackets).

3rd year in paradise
Our family enjoyed another amazing week at Darwin's cottage this August. We love the views, peace and quiet, privacy and opportunity to really immerse ourselves in nature. Wildlife this year was particularly plentiful including beaver, mink, a bobcat, porcupines and all kinds of birds and fish. We counted 69 species in all. We hope to be back again for our 4th year. Thanks for being a great host Darwin!

Great Getaway
Perfect spot on McGregor Bay. Gorgeous views, incredible scenery, fabulous paddling, great hiking (ok, a little bushwhacking!). Kayaks, canoe, paddleboard were all lots of fun. Rustic cottage, exactly as advertised — and the dishwasher was an excellent and much-appreciated luxury. We’ll be back!

Second Year on Jumbo Island
We had a wonderful vacation at Darwin's cottage for the 2nd year in a row! Our extended family of 7 had so much fun kayaking, canoeing, paddle boarding, swimming, sitting by the fire and generally just enjoying being in this special place. The view from the front of the cottage is truly spectacular! Wildlife was abundant! We saw deer, porcupine, beavers, bald eagles, mink and so many fish, birds, frogs and turtles. We felt immersed in nature and were so grateful for another wonderful week! Thank you Darwin! Tina, Sid, Alex, Anita, Simon, Julia and Nick

Paradise in McGregor Bay
This is a very unique and exceptional property—isolated, large, clean, well stocked and full of history and character in every corner of the wonderful cottage. Due to Covid the lake is unusually quiet (60%+ not able to make it to their cottages from the US). You rarely hear a boat or see anyone on the water. We kayaked, fished (lots of delicious bass to eat), hiked the island, sat on the large dock, swam and enjoyed a very peaceful getaway to an amazing place in the north (4.5 hours from midtown Toronto with one stop). We only had one rainy day and enjoyed the screened in porch for quiet time reading and drawing the local landscape. Everyone was super friendly and always ready to help or answer questions —thank you Darwin, Murray and your staff at Still Water (water taxi and boat rental). We saw a large snapping turtle, eagles, deer, mink, beavers, ducks, geese, birds, lots of fish everywhere —and no bears! We can’t wait to return next year and feel so grateful we were able to book our week in paradise this summer.

Wonderful week on Jumbo Island
We rented Darwin’s cottage for a week in August and had a wonderful time. We were 6 family members ranging from 21 to 70 and everyone loved our week there. The highlights included kayaking, canoeing, swimming, the amazing view from the fire pit area, jumping off Fat Man’s Belly rock, the lovely screened in porch for meals and the fabulous fire place. Also Murray provided excellent service for transporting us by water taxi to and from the island. We loved it so much we have booked again for next summer.

Best Family Vacation!
This was the best family vacation to date! Darwin was an absolute pleasure to deal with. He responded to all of my questions in a timely manner. Darwin’s cottage by far exceeding our expectations. The views are insanely gorgeous, the cottage was very clean, spacious, rustic, and also very gorgeous. There is tons of dock space and we spent all day everyday on the water. There’s 3 single man kayaks, one two man kayak, 3 canoes and a paddle board. My 7 and 5 year old learned how to kayak and paddle board and are now asking for that for their birthdays! There is also cliff jumping which was great! There is so much to do and see up there. It was sad leaving after a week; we definitely weren’t ready to leave. Thanks again for everything Darwin and sharing your piece of paradise with us!

My husband and I enjoyed a wonderful week in this special cabin in an incredibly beautiful corner of Ontario. We had a fantastic time - we loved the beautiful setting and the warmth hospitality of Darwin and his family. There were so many highlights it is hard to know where to start. Peaceful paradise
We had an amazing stay at Darwin’s cabin. The surrounding nature was gorgeous and there were countless options for exploring the nature and history within McGregor Bay. Part of the charm was the rustic (yet clean and beautiful) cabin. The views from the fire pit area and front porch are incredible. Darwin provides kayaks and canoes for exploring the area - we had a wonderful time. We enjoyed fishing, swimming, cliff jumping and exploring for hours every day. Star gazing at night was incredible. We had the best week. Thank you Darwin for sharing your place with us - we absolutely loved our time at your cabin!

Darwin's island is fantastic!
Darwin's cabin/island is absolutely beautiful! Our family (5 adults & 3 children) stayed for a week in July 2019. The kitchen, although a bit small, is well equipped. The 2 fridges are key; there was plenty of room for food and the deep freezer was great for keeping bags of ice (so they didn't take up room in the freezer). The only kitchen item Id recommend to bring with you is a can opener; Darwin's can opener has seen a few decades and is located in a tricky spot. Additionally, we did see ants on our first, full, day but after a quick clean up (and putting all our food in airtight containers or in the fridge) we didn't see them again. So, my advice to any future renters is to always keep every thing the fridge or airtight container. The beds were comfy and the bedrooms are good size. The twin beds can be used together to make king size beds or can be left separate. My recommendation for the bedrooms would be fans! It did get warm while we were visiting, and only 1 bedroom had a fan. We had every window in the house open and we were still a bit warm at night. (Side note-I've been coming up to the islands for 25 years and there have only been a handful of years where a fan would be necessary.) We did use the fireplace on the one day that it cooled down. My husband loves the sound and smell of a cracking fire. It worked well and was such a wonderful touch to our rainy day. The screened in porch was beautiful and where we spent most of our time. We did bring a few games with us but Darwin has many games, and a few decks of cards, at the cabin already. Overall, the cabin is well equipped and the surroundings are breathtaking.
