The location of the hotel was best! dongdaemun is a popular touristy area with DDP, station , Seoul city wall, east gate, the city steam all in 5 min walking distance.

The hotel was very clean and beautiful. The staff was friendly and greeted us everytime we left and arrived at the hotel. We had the breakfast buffet twice. Although it was pricey, the food was delicious and had plenty of options. The dining options around the hotel qere plentiful as well. Our room had a beautiful view of the Dongdaemun Gate.

Max is the best.

As usual this hotel is the epitome of service. I especially want to give special credit to max at the front desk. I’m not sure if he’s new, but he was most helpful upon check in all through check out.

I would be close to saying that this has been one of my favourite hotels I have stayed at around the world. The attentiveness of staff, service, quality could not have been better. I’m not easily impressed and I’ve had nothing but good things to say.

Hotel and the room itself was dated. Much more of a boutique feel than anticipated. Also, too much noise could be heard from outside, despite being in a designated quiet room. The bed was comfortable as expected, but feel that most of its 5 star hotel competitors in Seoul provide much better value and higher quality in every facet

Flawless from start to finish.

My wife and I stayed here as part of our South Korea trip. Although our 2.5 year old wasn’t with us she would have had a wonderful time if she was. Staff were friendly and smiling; from the first doorman that greeted us, to the reception staff, restaurant staff and gym staff. We felt the staff were especially professional and wouldn’t let us lift a finger. The property is clean, modern and impressive. It is connected to the Dongdaemun metro station which makes getting about very easy. The gym is truly outstanding, as is the swimming pool (with a small toddlers pool full of about 100 rubber ducks). We had an executive room with a wonderful gate view which was large and modern. It had lounge access and we felt the food offerings were of a great quality. When I was booking I couldn’t decide between this and the Westin Josun so I booked both. I’m now at the Westin and wish I could go back to the JW Dongdaemun as the Westin is not in the same league.

When a team works well, this is what you get 10/10. And at this scale, a hotel. The executive suite is the home away from home. There are many staff members to be compliments. Allen and Jessica from the front office are polite and give clear information. The concierge and bell desk team is exceptional, a shout out to David. I stayed for a week and watched the breakfast room team work effortlessly and dedication to details. Attentive Justin, the ever sweet, smiley Daisy and Danny - from the noodle station. One can see they are beyond happy and pride in doing what they do. Last but not least, the housekeeping team. When I departed for the airport, how the team worked hand in hand handling the luggage, the doors, and watching out for the traffic was perfection. Thank you, and Marriot Dongdaemun will be my 1st choice when I visit Korea the next time 🙂

Nice but probably not again

Nice big rooms for a relatively convenient location. Good price offered on Hotels.com. On the first night we found a footprint on the bedsheet which the hotel swiftly replaced. Overall hotel is clean and well kept but does show signs of use and aging. We had a room overlooking the creek and there were constantly smokers outside so we had to keep the curtains closed at all times (we were in the middle floors.) our friend had lower level floor room facing the DDM and they could hear the bustling traffic at all hours. Hotel should consider better sound proofing. Location: There is direct MTR access until 7pm, but no clear signage for this and staff not very proactive in offering help, maybe hindered by limited English. Great if you are keen on late night shopping to DDM, as it is only a 5 min walk to the malls but not great if you wish to shop elsewhere and want to drop your bags at the hotel in the middle of the day. Major limitation of the hotel is the lack of convenience store next door, the closest one is a 5 min walk and in opposite direction to the metro so it is not v convenient for late night snacks/ breakfast on the go (and hotel does not permit food delivery).
