Getting away from it all
This property is exactly as advertised. Close to the things you need, but enough in the woods so you felt like you were away from all the business of the world. We greatly enjoyed our stay. We had a couple issues that just happen in life while there and Tim responded quickly and took care of things. The bed was more than Okay, and with the window AC units we were very comfortable on the warm days. We have stayed at many places, but this lodge was in the top 3 for us. Cheers David

So relaxing and so many well thoughts details in the property!
We loved staying at the Dewitt lodge! The area is beautiful, the location is very convenient as you with a short drive you can easily explore all of the Hudson valley with all the lovely towns and beautiful hikes. The owner Tim puts so much care and attention in preparing the house for you! We were greeted by music from Radio Woodstock in the house, and we loved the station so we kept it on pretty much the entire time we were home. All was clean and organized so well, we had everything we needed! We loved that he also prepared two extra ‘puppy towels’ and some treats for our dog who was with us. Wonderful stay, we will definitely be back!

Even better than we hoped! :)
Let me join the chorus of people who loved staying at this property - so lovely and conveniently located! And I must say the pictures don't even do justice to how nice and spacious the house and its surroundings are. We felt very secluded/private but it was a short drive to everything. The home is full of nice thoughtful touches/decorations, and handy instructions (how to use the stereo, looking out for ticks, etc.) which show the host really puts a lot of thought and effort in. Our little dog loved running around the woods in the back and chasing chipmunks, and we loved watching him while grilling on the stone patio out back. Before we left we were already making plans to come back as soon as possible. Thanks so much!!

Irresistible little house
We loved our stay at DeWitt Lodge, a comfortable, beautiful, and charmingly decorated house with an adorable loft space we named "the gossip nest." It was also the cleanest rental property we'd ever seen. Tim answered any questions we texted immediately. We'd like to go back in summer: the house has two outside porches that would be perfect for writing in come warmer weather. But it was lovely in snow too. Highly recommended.

wonderful cabin

Perfect little cottage

Little house on a country road.
Everything about this home is just as advertised. The only neighbors were the woods on three sides and the country road that was a nice distance down the front driveway. Yet it is only a 5 minute drive to reach a full range of services. An added plus is that the kitchen is very well stocked and we cooked a full breakfast every morning!

Tim's Home Was Just Beautiful In Every Way!
When we first stepped into your lovely home it was as if all of our burdens were lifted and we instantaneously felt completely relaxed. The Woodstock radio station was playing pleasant music, the decor was tasteful and interesting., and the cabin had a pleasant woodsy scent. Even our dogs completely relaxed. We enjoyed being surrounded by the beautiful woods, and loved the location. We appreciated your restaurant recommendation list and tried out some places which we thoroughly enjoyed. On Sunday it rained, but we went hiking anyway with our dogs at the Falling Waters Preserve and had a great time! Then it was off to Woodstock! We love the area and only wish we had more time to explore. We are already thinking about coming back to your lovely abode sometime soon. Thank you, Tim, for your attention to detail and for your thoughtfulness. We had everything we wanted and needed and more!

Charming stay
Our stay here was lovely. The cabin has great character, is clean and well-maintained. It is relatively close to the road, but the beautiful woods to stroll in right behind the cabin well make up for that! Highly recommend.

Nice cabin in a great location
The cabin is in a nice setting in the woods just outside Kingston which gives you a short drive to several parks for walking the dog or just relaxing. Close to Hyde Park mansion park and state parks which are very well kept. Downtown Kingston is a great walking town with several great restaurants and stores. Timothy has the cabin well stocked with what you need in the kitchen and the bed was extremely comfortable. A key for a 4 night stay. Thanks Timothy we enjoyed our stay.

Little Slice of Heaven on Earth
Don’t miss this lovely home. Beautifully decorated on a gorgeous piece of wooded property. Saw so many bats at dusk - it was simply amazing. This home has everything that you need ... especially Woodstock radio is playing as soon as you walk in. Super close proximity to grocery, liquor, and restaurants in Kingston. Our small dog may have possibly loved it more than us (not). ❤️ We will be back!

Property is accurate as described. My brother and I stayed over the Labor Day weekend. We hiked 10 miles on Sat in Minnewaska State Park Preserve and biked the Wallkill Rail Trail on Sunday. DeWitt Lodge was comfortable and is accurately described.

The place is nestled in a beautiful woodsy area. You can walk and walk and walk in your back yard, the lodge has a very calming affect on you from the minute you walk in. Music was playing when I walked in, the wood on the walls just makes it a perfect rustic getaway for us city slickers!

A Comfortable Cabin in the Woods
We enjoyed our stay! The cabin is very clean and comfortably furnished. We enjoyed breakfasts and dinners on the back patio, surrounded by trees. It is in a good location for exploring the Catskills and Hudson River Valley.

Perfect cabin in the woods with quick access from the NY Metro area
My fiancé and I adored this classic lodge in the woods. The wood stove got the cabin VERY toasty. When we didn’t use it, the heating system was quick and the hot water was available on demand. Very private, but only 40 yards or so off the beaten path. Very close to very cool historic places to visit and dine. Kingston was eye opening with incredible shops and dining, as was Woodstock. Saugerties was also very beautiful and interesting. The proprietor has the lodge in perfect condition and immaculate. I’d love to visit in warm weather to fully take advantage of the two seasonal rooms and the surrounding property. Many deer visited and we saw 3 wild turkeys. Great sound system and the TV and internet were superb. I used to travel much farther and got much less bang for my buck. We will return!

A great place to stay in the Hudson Valley, rustic yet comfortable and cozy!
My daughter and I spent three nights here over Thanksgiving weekend and it was a nice getaway place for us. Though rustic in feel, we both felt it covered our needs well—comfortable beds, sweet little kitchen (a great place to dance to the owners’ fun vinyl collection!) and a cozy living room for watching movies and reading. Great place to stay!

Perfect upstate getaway for the weekend

My husband and I have been to this area many times but this was the best place we stayed so far. It was comfortable, clean and had many extras such as a great music selection and DVD's. Its location is central and within easy access to numerous tourist attractions. Thanks for a great week Tim.

Charming cottage getaway!
We spent two nights at the DeWitt Lodge to celebrate my wife's birthday. The space was a key component to a perfectly relaxing get away. The house was cute, cozy, clean, and isolated but not TOO remote. It's only a quick 10 minutes from town where we had a great French and Mexican dinners, antique shopping, and scored dozens of LPs from the several local record stores (THE HOUSE HAS A RECORD PLAYER!).

Everything you need for fresh air and quiet meditation. Great food and entertainment is near. Cabin has a great shower, lots of hot,hot water. Warm fluffy bed and song birds at your window. Access Kingston, Woodstock, Stone Ridge ,Saugerties and New Paltz with minutes.

A cozy, serene retreat
This was our second time staying at the lodge, and I had forgotten just how lovely it was inside -- all the warm wood tones, jewel-toned furnishings, and beautiful little decorative objects around the house. It's a very soothing environment -- a perfect place to forget the stresses of everyday life. The wood-burning stove in the bedroom is awesome, definitely a highlight of our stay both times, and the available wood provided was much appreciated. It's amazing how it can heat up the whole house. The bedroom, surrounded by big old rhododendrons and evergreens, is beautiful. The sound system is great. And the newly added Roku makes using the TV a breeze. The kitchen is on the small side but I managed to cook meals for two several times. And the supplementary fridge in the utility room is very helpful. The location is great, close to all the retail offerings of Kingston and lots of hiking spots. If you're looking for a completely off-the-grid, middle-of-nowhere location, this might not be for you. But I appreciated the convenient location and proximity to stores, restaurants, etc. Plus, there's the natural beauty of the forested backyard just out the back door. And just a random comment: It's so nice that this lodge has substantial curtains in the living room and bedroom. So many rentals have no curtains or really flimsy ones. I slept so well with the nice, thick curtains in the bedroom. Super comfy bed, too, with a variety of pillows to choose from.

Quiet and lovely, but convenient, too!
I stayed here with a colleague when we came for a workshop at R&F paints. We stayed 3 nights. It was perfect for 2 people, and would also easily fit a small family. There's one main bedroom downstairs, a sleeping area in an upstairs loft, and a bathroom that opens to the bedroom and kitchen. We mainly ate out (there's a great area food scene, from diner to gourmet, ethnic and fusion), but had breakfast, tea and snacks in the kitchen. The kitchen is tiny but well-equipped, and there are pantry items, too (nice tea selection!). One of the nicest touches is a screened and glazed back porch off the kitchen (lovely spot for breakfast) and another porch off the main bedroom. Interior is heavily paneled in wood, so you feel like you're in a small hunting cabin. And the property is heavily wooded with great rhododendrons. Beds were comfy and warm, and furniture is nice quality. This would also be a great retreat for writing (dissertation or novel). Because the cabin has well water, our host had an ample supply of bottled water for drinking. I would definitely stay here again, and hopefully will!

Small but well located
Tim was a great host. We had everything we needed and the cabin was very comfortable. The place was chic but a bit small. It was very clean and quiet though, and we were able to get to Mohonk and other fun places quite easily. Thanks for a great stay!

Your own woods outside Kingston
This is a nice little red house surrounded by woods. Great porch with a fire pit for hanging out at the edge of the woods. If you want to go further in, there's a path that goes about 50 yards deep. If you want to be adventurous there's plenty more. It's pretty quiet. You hear the road, but I didn't really notice it at all. You hear a lot more birds. Close to Kingston Stockade District. Also close to Hurley. Quick to 87 and the Rhinebeck Bridge as well. Inside is well equipped and comfortable. We were there with out 3 year old and she loved being there.

Absolutely great place to stay, perfect location!!
Our family traveled from Indiana/Ohio to attend a high school graduation. From reading the VRBO description and reviews from other guests, we had fairly high hopes this would be a good place to stay. My Aunt is a stickler for cleanliness... and even she was impressed! We loved the setting in the woods, the house was thoughtfully decorated, the beds were REALLY comfortable, and the general location was perfect! Tim left us tips on where to go in Kingston, and we must give 2 thumbs up for the Dietz Stadium Diner, and also the Deising's Bakery right across the street from the diner! The inside of the cabin is wonderful to look at and explore... from the music selection to the posters/wall art to the various items throughout. My favorite was the sitting area outside the master bedroom. We did not have time to explore the grounds... but saw what looked like a nice path leading into the woods. We will just have to do that on a future trip! I would not hesitate to stay here again, and would highly recommend it to anyone.

Magical Spot
Dewitt Lodge is a wonderful home away from home. Tim clearly takes his role as a host seriously, and the cabin is the reflection of that. When we arrived, the lights were on, our favorite radio station was playing, and there was a nice personal note, along with a bottle of prosecco in the fridge. Also, the house was scrupulously clean. The cabin was a great base for us during weekend celebrations with friends, and truly felt like home. Despite the road noise, it feels wonderfully isolated in the woods. I will definitely be back!

Lovely cottage in the woods
We truly enjoyed our stay in this beautifully appointed cottage in the woods. Our 4-year-old daughter and chihuahua and we had everything we needed and felt right at home, and used it as the perfect home base to go off to Rhinebeck and Storm King. Very comfortable and quiet.

A lovely home in the woods
The rest of the reviews pretty much sum it up -- this is a charming home that is convenient to many destinations in the Hudson Valley. It's lovingly decorated -- super homey and stylish at the same time. For me, the bedroom was particularly special, with big glass sliding doors on the walls parallel to the bed an enclosed porch at the end of the room. It felt like you were surrounded by the forest as you lay in bed. Also, the wood-burning stove is delightful and warms up the house so well. The Wi-Fi connection is great, though, for the life of me, I couldn't seem to access any channels besides Netflix and Amazon through the smart TV interface. The forest out back of the home is amazing. We came with our dog and it was so idyllic walking out there with her. Even though it was late fall, it felt lush and green, between all the conifers in the forest and big old beautiful rhododendrons surrounding the house. The only downside for me was that it was challenging to cook in a kitchen with a very small stove and counter-height fridge, though I kind of expect to have to make adjustments in a vacation home. It's just something to keep in mind if you're planning to cook a lot of meals. This is a super special house, and I was so glad to be able to stay there. I felt very appreciative to Tim to make it such a great experience for us.

Peaceful retreat
We rented this cottage from Tim for 3 nights in October. The cottage is better than the pictures show. It is so clean and comfortable. Perfect for a couple . Fireplace in the bedroom is a nice touch. It is old and rustic in a nice way . Tim was fantastic to deal with. Very private setting but close to everything . We loved it !!!

Cozy, comfortable Red Cottage in the Woods
We really enjoyed this house. We were two parents and our 9 yr old son. He loved sleeping in the loft overlooking the living room. There is a nice stereo system with CDs and vinyl. The entire house was spotlessly clean and is very nicely decorated. The beds were very comfortable and the linens and towels were fresh and clean. Lots of outdoor seating. It is only a few minutes into Kingtson where we went to visit family. Lots of things to do in Kingston (great farmers market on Saturday) and in the surrounding areas.
