Visit Songshan to see the financial hub at the core of Taipei, characterized by its many skyscrapers and modern bank buildings. Lively streets host a traditional night market as well as a great range of landmarks. Be dazzled by the bright lights of the city’s most iconic buildings and the neon beams of the night market stalls.
Among the greatest draws to Taipei are its night markets, and Songshan’s is one of the best. Chat with the vendors at the Raohe Street Night Market for a sense of local culture. This is one of the largest and most iconic of all of Taipei’s markets, with the exotic scent of stinky tofu filling the air. Other favorite foods here include deep-fried potato spirals, dorayaki pancake sandwiches and boba milk tea.
In the market, you’ll find the Songshan Ciyou Temple, which dates back to the 18th century. Notice the intricate façade rich with colorful sculptures and dragons. Snap photos of the dense maze of ornaments gracing the front and see the impressive altar inside.
For something a little different, make your way to the Taipei Arena, where you can watch varied sports from basketball to tennis. Appreciate its slick modern design and check the schedule for events, which have included The Lion King and a Katy Perry concert.
Bring the family for skating on the large rink of Ice Land. Browse the items for sale at the nearby Breeze Center, which is packed with restaurants and upscale boutiques.
