Great place-new favorite!
One of my new favorite places to stay on the north shore! It was clean, high quality bedding, comfy furniture. Sauna was great. Loved the access to hiking right out the door. Definitely recommend. Host was responsive and helpful.

Very nice property!
Sauna was amazing and kept all the kiddos entertained during our downtime. Proximity to Gooseberry Falls was Awesome! Highly recommend the Rustic Inn (the pies were amazing!) and The Angry Trout (in Grand Marais!). Only issue we had was some downstairs neighbors who were quite loud til about 1 am. You could hear it all! But I contacted the manager, and it was not a problem the next night. Also, bring your own shower gel/shampoo/conditioner! Thanks for a great stay.

Beautiful property and location
Everything was great about our stay. Extremely clean and cozy. The fireplace and lake view were awesome. Great place to base camp in the spring while we hiked and looked for rocks. You do get a little noise from the adjacent units but it didn't bother us. Will definitely stay again and would recommend to others.

The view there can be very beautiful. We do try to let guests know this is a 4-plex building. 4 condo suites in one building with a shared sauna house and fire pit. Perfect for groups who want a little separating, but the same location to take adventure exploring the North Shore..

Sensitive smoke alarm
Smoke alarm goes off if you open the glass doors to put in a log , unless you open the windows and put a fan in the window before doing that. Closed the flue after our fire went out but a few embers later set off the alarm at 11:30. A big deal was made about closing the flue when not using the fireplace but it would take hours for every ember to completely go out. Probably poor circulation or misplaced location for fire alarm.

Hi Mike, Very sorry you had challenges with the fireplace. I will have our maintenance double-check check the flue is working correctly. Everything is in the location required for all fire safety regulations, we don't have any options to change or move the fire alarm. It is imparity that the flue on these woodburning fireplaces is open completely. We do ask that the flues be closed before checkout, but certainly not if there are still ambers burning. We've only had one other guest have an issue with the fire alarm, but it was because the flue was closed and they had trouble getting the fire going. We now provide fire starters to make it easy to get a fire going. We welcome any suggestions for enjoying a safe, warm, natural woodburning fire during all guest stays. Kind regards - NSVR Manager

Wonderful!
We loved staying here and hope to be back! Great location and beautiful view! We loved hiking right into Gooseberry. The place was cozy and clean. We loved the wood burning fireplace as well!

Thanks for appreciating the location and view! The hiking is hard to beat and we don't do a good job showing just how much hiking there is just out the back door. Some of our favorite spots are alone the river in Gooseberry Falls State park. Did you take any photos of your hiking?

Excellent location!
This is a gem, right off the trails at Gooseberry SP. It was our second stay, and we enjoyed it just as much as last time. Clean. Great host. Sauna and fireplace! And best of all, a clear view of Lake Superior.

Fall get away
We had a great time! There trails right out the back door we’re awesome and the fall colors were stunning. The sunrise across Lake Superior is beautiful. Great get away and very conveniently located to Two Harbors and Lutsen. Thanks for the opportunity to stay at this wonderful property.

Awesome Two Harbors Stay
Friends and I came up for the weekend for grouse hunting. This place was amazing for what we needed as a base camp, pet friendly, and hosts made everything easy. The view of Superior from the master bed and deck was phenomenal. Had a ski waxing room and sauna which we didn’t use but a great amenity for Nordic skiers that I’ll use in the future. Trailside by Gooseberry for one of the best hikes on the North Shore.

Nice Place
The place was newly renovated and nice. We did find dog hair all over the couch when we got there and notified the manager so she could speak with the housekeeper. After we started settling in we saw other areas that could have been cleaned better…floors, dust, cobwebs. There was nothing there to clean with so we just worked with it. We also didn’t notice the place didn’t have air conditioning and it was hot. Our unit was 78 degree each night we went to bed but cooled off during the night…my own fault for overlooking this. Manager was very responsive and kind. Place was nice but could have been cleaned better.

Great location for enjoying outdoors
This is such a perfect spot for anybody who enjoys hiking, with the Gooseberry Falls State Park just out the back and the Gitchi Gami trail across the road. Very comfortable during our stay.

Great spot and amenities
Great for 6. People say it’s small but not if you are used to European flat accommodation. Laid out much like that and bedrooms are large. Sauna was great. Only improvement- I wish there was a fire pit on both sides of the building so you have a shot at having one with just your party and that they had shampoo.

Great Trip
Very nice property. It is very well laid out so it feels very private even though there are other rooms on the property. Upper level we were on had a great view of the lake. Nice deck and gas grill for cooking. There isn’t a bathtub, but the sink large enough where we could wash up the infant. Would recommend to others and would definitely stay again.

Cozy homebase for North Shore adventures
The Gooseberry Trailside Suites occupy a prime spot on Highway 61 and makes it easy to explore all the prime spots on the north shore. We stayed in the Lester suite which was plenty of room for two of us to relax between our excursions. The trail connecting to the property to Gooseberry Falls State Park was a nice little perk too - it gives you access to trails that are often overlooked at such a busy park. I didn't see a single person on them while I was there! We didn't get a chance to use the sauna (it was too hot!) but it would be a welcome addition to a fall/winter visit. We weren't aware that there wasn't AC, but between the many fans and opening the windows at night, we were fairly comfortable during peak summer weather. We felt like we had enough privacy and weren't disturbed by any noises from other suites. While technically dog friendly according to the listing, you'd have to have quite a well-trained dog as pets are not allowed on the furniture, can't be left alone in the suite and not allowed to be barking so as not to disturb other guests. Reasonable expectations overall, but just be aware of you plan to bring your dog! Overall, this was a clean, safe and convenient place to stay at a good value. I'd stay again!

Great location
We enjoyed our stay. The location is great and close to Gooseberry State Park and other places where we were hoping to go. Only 20 minutes away from Two Harbors. A couple of things not as great arer the shower size (too small) and water was yellow-brown so we ended up going to town to purchase drinking water. I let Merrissa know and she did say that she will try to take care of that right away. But, overall, we had a very pleasant time staying there.

Comfortable, clean and convenient
Perfect spot to hike, relax and venture along the Lake Superior Coast. Kitchen had everything that you need to make your meals, along with a grill. We were in the Lester Suite so had a view of the lake and a deck with table and chairs. Nice sitting outside but glad we brought our thermacells because the mosquitoes were bad. Master bedroom had a California King that was very comfortable. My only heads up is the shower is small so if you are very large, it would be tight showering. Highly recommend though and we had a great time.

Wonderful place! Wonderful time!
My mom, sister and I had our first girls weekend with no kids and no hubbies! We had so much fun exploring from Two Harbors up to Grand Marais! We loved having a place so comfortable and so nice to come “home” to each night. We didn’t hear any of the other people that were staying in the other units. Very private!

Soundproofing between units is poor. Even doors shutting in other unit shook the house. Most of the time we were the only people there and it was quiet . If all units were filled it could be quite unpleasant. (it would be great for a family reunion renting all the units) Overall, very clean and well kept. Great location for seeing the state parks!

The perfect location for chasing waterfalls
The property was perfect for my family. We loved being away from town but close enough that we could make a quick trip in if needed. We were able to cook 2-3 meals a day and save quite a bit of money. It was a perfect cabin in the woods with a beautiful view of the lake. We highly recommend this place!

Generally pleased but some things could be improved
Mostly good, but a few things could be better. The shower head is huge and you can’t escape it so good luck showering and not getting your hair wet if you are short. Bathroom garbage is the kind you step on to open but it doesn’t work at all so to throw things away you had to open the garbage with your hand. Also waaaaay too hot. We kept turning the heat down but it didn’t get better.

Thank you for your feedback Samantha. We greatly appreciate it and will get the garbage fixed right away. The shower head is something I had not thought of and am glad you pointed it out! With these increasing temperatures, we will be working on controlling the heat better. It can be a great thing when the chilly Lake Superior winds pick up but I can understand if it's warm outside and needs to be cooler inside. :)

Ideal Location

2023 Road-trip beginning
This cabin was exactly what our family was looking for. It was close to all the local attractions and close to Two Harbors. We started a fire when we arrived and the grands and adults enjoyed s’mores, our granddaughter and her friend enjoyed the sauna. Played games late into the evening. Woke up to a breathtaking sunrise that I’ve never seen before with my love by side. We most certainly will be visiting this place again sooner than later. Thank you Merissa for your services. nice 4plex close to Gooseberry Park
Nice place; We would go back happily. A few things to consider; the upper level north side (where we stayed) has several steps which were harder for our older dog to climb so it would be easier to stay on the lower level if you have a pooch that needs to go out regularly. GREAT view of the lake. Far enough back from the highway noise to be minimally intrusive. We were there in the winter so hard to judge the grounds but there is a very nice outdoor patio/fire pit. We didn't try the sauna but it looked OK. One suggestion. The driveway is dirt/gravel. At the bottom of the steps to our unit was a little muddy (as to be expected) so perhaps an outdoor shoe brush on the deck would help. Also a larger inside mat to allow you to reach a chair to remove dirty wet shoes would be helpful. Only real complaint is the VRBO booking fees. but that's not on the owner.

Great location, small place
The location of this place is amazing! Right on the park, so we could ski in and the trails are amazing. The sauna was wonderful too! The cabin itself was small. It sleeps 6, but there's only 4 dining chairs, lounging space for 4, and bath towels for 4. We are a family of 6, so this was a little frustrating. We spent most of the time outside, so we didn't mind the small cabin, but wish that there would have been accommodations for 6 since it was advertised as such, and we told them we would have 6 people staying there. All in all I would recommend, just know its small.

Ask for rules before you book
We planned a last minute short winter trip to the N. Shore for winter hiking and cross country skiing. My daughter needed to be able to bring her dog with her due to her sitters not being available. Property said it was pet friendly and close to Gooseberry Falls which is where we wanted to be. Two weeks out we get the long list of rules that were not initially stated on the listing. One being that dogs were not allowed to be left alone at the property. I would have never booked this property if I would have known that. We couldn't take the dog to any of the activities we had planned therefore my daughter and dog did not come. They also tried to charge me twice for the pet fee. Careful that you watch what you are paying for under their fees on check out. You can also be asked to leave if your dog is barking and somebody complains. It is very easy to hear your neighbors. Not much sound insulation. When we got there the code to get in didn't work which after driving 8 hours is very frustrating. The property owner did return my call promptly and we were able to get in. We ran into the handyman the next day and he confirmed that the code was not working. We had trouble later with the door knob freezing up that I took as the code not working again. The handyman was great and took care of it for us. Another drawback for us was the strong smoke smell. They have indoor fireplaces and even though we never had a fire we got the smokiness from our neighbors that did. The location of the property was fantastic. We were able to walk a very short distance and get on Gooseberry Falls cross country ski trails which was awesome!

We try to be as pet friendly as possible while also respecting the close proximity of the other guests. Unfortunately, we have had situations in the past where barking dogs were left unattended and disturbed the other 3 units. We have tried to find the best compromise possible for all guests. We love bringing our dogs with us when we travel and try to provide that opportunity for others as well. We are glad you enjoyed the trails!!

Nice location
We recently stayed in the Lester Suite. Parking area was well lit with motion sensor lights. Check in was super simple with a code (though it sounds like the code may be the same for all units? Not positive, though). Once inside we discovered the heat was not working. Thankfully there was a radiant heater in each bedroom, so we got those plugged in and started while we reached out to the host. It was around 9 p.m. and had been traveling for almost 12 hours, so we tried making the best of it. The host replied quickly and scheduled the maintenance guy to come right away in the morning. He determined the problem was not something he could get parts for on a weekend so he left more electric heaters and made sure we had firewood. We appreciate the effort, but since we would be gone for awhile, we were not comfortable leaving the unit with the heaters running (upon searching safety on them, it specifically states not to run unattended or for long periods of time). When we returned we plugged in the heaters and sat in our vehicle waiting for the unit to warm up. The extra heaters did help some; we were not staying up long enough to start the fireplace. Potential Cons for future tenants: *Very easy to hear tenants in other units. I could clearly hear the person below us snoring and the group talking . *The floors in our unit were creaking; the unit has been updated, but the main floor looks like it has not been. *Handrails on the deck didn't have anywhere good to grab if the stairs are slippery *The morning sun is very bright in the living room window and there aren't curtains to help shield the light. *Bathroom shower is very small *No tv Pros: *View of Lake Superior. We were able to watch Ore Boats passing through *Kitchen looked well stocked, though we didn't use most of it *The deck is nice and big *Fans and an electric radiant heater are provided in each bedroom *An extra quilt is provided in the Armour *Beds were comfortable with ample bedding The property owner agreed to give us a partial refund for the heat issue, though we had to ask for it. Even though our stay wasn't ideal, this is still a great location and a nice place to stay for trips to the North Shore. Had the furnace been working, our experience would have been much better and we appreciate the quick response by the manager to provide a solution.

Very pleasant, easy to relax
The property is in an excellent location for access to outdoor pursuits, easy to find, and private. I appreciated the thoughtful amenities (a wonderful duvet in the room with the queen bed) the condo is starting to show some wear however, marked walls, rusty shower curtain. Little things like mismatched light bulbs over the bathroom vanity leave an impression. Yes, they were functional but these small changes would take it up a notch. The condo also needs a more thorough cleaning in the cupboards, below the kitchen sink. Vacuuming around window frames to get rid of dead flies. Soap dispensers and hand sanitizers were low. Just a little more t.l.c. would make a big difference. People are are hard on things, no doubt. I try to be a mensch and leave things a little better than I find them. Thank you for sharing your property with my daughter and I. It was a priviledge.

What a spectacular location!
Modern, clean, well-stocked kitchen, fireplace for cozy evenings, and right off the trails at Gooseberry State Park. This is one of the best locations we've found on the North Shore. The only reason for 4 vs. 5 stars is that the walls are quite thin, so you can hear everything the other guests are saying. We overcame it by playing music and using the fans at night. And, this minor downside will not prevent us from renting here again! It's really a gem.

A VRBO with a beautiful view of Lake Superior
Nice 2 bedroom, comfortable beds, well equipped kitchen and beautiful wood burning fireplace that warmed us up. Nice deck but we did not use it with the cold/ windy weather. We enjoyed the sauna in the mornings. Owner was very responsive to requests for a couple items.

North Shore Getaway

Easy Access to Nature
Beautiful rental with lake view and trail access. Seating space was limited on a rainy, stay inside day, but manageable. Rooms could use wall hooks or clothe hanging option.

Great Location
We were attending a nearby wedding and extended our stay to take in some of the local attractions with our daughter's family. The location has great access to Gooseberry State Park hiking trails and is just minutes from the falls and Split Rock Lighthouse. We also biked the Githee Gummi trail for several miles. The only very minor downside is the nearness of Hwy 61, but traffic noise was never a problem when the windows were closed. Not sure how it would be in hot weather. The owner was responsive when we reported that there were only 2 coffee mugs and we had 4 adults. Three new mugs appeared while we were out biking the same day. Sauna was also nice.

Very Clean. Good beds. No TV if that concerns you. There is some outside noise from nearby highway, when you open windows. Nice deck with sitting area. We would of used the fire pit outside, but it was breezy so did want to risk it. Good Stay

Happy Hiking
This property is in a great location for those who want to have a homebase for hikes north and south of Gooseberry, not to mention that it's right on the trail to Gooseberry Falls Park itself. Be aware that the rental unit is one of four in the building, so you don't have the whole property to yourself. Everything was clean and in good condition. We enjoyed our stay.
