This is not luxury by any means, but it is a beautiful setting, so get ready for a bit of austerity in the rooms. That being said, the property is so lovely that you shouldn't be in your room more than absolutely necessary anyway!

I will start out by saying that Asilomar does serve a purpose for the area. They are very reasonable priced rooms that are probably equal to a good motel six. We had trouble as two seniors getting upstairs to our room. We should have been told that there was a loading and unloading spot around the corner, where we would not have had to do this.

When I first arrived, it was not what I expected. Parking very confusing as we were looking for our underground “garage” we asked an employee passing us by and totally ignored us talk about friendly customer service here. We finally found our parking area, and no signs to where we should walk to our location. We also figured that out ourselves. Room was just not ok, bedding was dirty and when we called to ask for another one we had to go due to personal outing, and arrived there was NO parking (should’ve known that was going to be an issue when we did not get parking permits from the hotel) we circled and nothing we called customer service told us to park in another area further out with limited lights walking back to our room. We got to the room. Only a new folded blanket on the table they still left the stained blanket on the bed. TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE. We didn’t have a working ice machine at our location either! No TV no MICROWAVE, no coffee machine, no ironing board but we did have an iron. The curtains looked extremely old and not washed once. Smelled very musty in the room. Very late and we were not going to leave to find another room that night. Was just a nightmare instead of a vacation.

Historic property started in 1913 by th YMCA as a beachfront summer camp on the Monterey Peninsula. Close casual boardwalk to the ocean. Beautiful natural ambience, perfect for a mental health weekend. Lodges and outbuildings throughout the property. No refrigerator or microwave in room so plan accordingly. Close to Pacific Grove for shopping and dining.

Very rustic. No TV, phone, coffee pot, micro, nothing!!! Wall paper peeling off all walls, grounds are beautiful and close to beach.

Asilomar is like glorified camping. No TV. No clock. No coffee maker and no microwave. WIFI and fridge is the extent of the amenities. Breakfast and dinner in the dining hall is expensive. Over 20.00 for breakfast and 46.00 for dinner. This is not the place for the handicapped - lots of walking up hills and stairs. Parking can be a challenge - especially if you are out late. The floors squeak and the water pressure is low. Found a spider above my bed on 2nd night. Having said all that - it's set in the forest and it's got walkways to Asilomar Beach. The lodge is rustic and huge with pool tables, fireplace, gift shop and coffee shop.

Pretty run down. Beautiful grounds. Mold in bathroom. Hair on walls. Loud clanging all night off and on in pipes within room, waking us up off and on. Grounds are gorgeous, sad to see if falling into disrepair. Location at asilomar beach keeps it occupied due to the beauty of surrounding areas but it’s a gem of a property sort of ailing under management of the place. Too bad. Not that I wouldn’t stay again it’s a national gem. Like the sand dunes it occupies it has a rustic and windswept feel to it, simple and yet could use some deep love to make it sparkle a little. I do hope it gets the attention it deserves before it totally falls apart….

Long known as a peaceful conference center on the Pacific coast has a resort camp atmosphere and a very earthy feel in a wooded surrounding. Interiors are calming with a 70's decor. The bathrooms have been maintained fairly but are really showing wear, especially concerning the bath and its surroundings.

Doors to cabins are propped open and give access to public. The facilities and amenities, while historic and cleaned very well, are not very well maintained, which is slightly unfortunate.

Gorgeous property! The pines are breathtaking, and we loved the short walk to the beach. As others have mentioned, the rooms are “rustic” — dated and run-down in many ways, but clean and functional. Staff was friendly and helpful. The lodge-like reception area is warm and inviting with pool tables, a fireplace, gift and coffee shops. I would definitely stay here again!

My bad experience was not with Asilomar, it was with Expedia. I attempted to cancel the trip because weather cancel our club run. I had purchased the trip insurance for $9 in case this might happen, but Expedia twisted/turned and then said - NO this does not apply. I have no idea when/why they would pay trip insurance if this did not fit the definition. But they make pretty good money with Tip Insurance I think. Yes, Asilomar is great. It is a CA State Park, you would get the same or better price if you just book it directly.

Although the location is great and an easy walk to the beach, the rooms are really outdated and they smell like old. One of our beds had a broken leg, the heater for the room wasn’t working and even though we had extended check out time, they came to our room to kick us out!

This is a magical property to stay at. The grounds are so beautiful and 5 min walk to a white sand beach. It's like you're clamping in Tahoe but while on the beach! 10/10!!

Really charming property my only qualms were theres no TV or phone in the room. Theres also no mini fridge unless requested. But theres really pretty views and the walking path to the beach is VERY pretty.

No TV, no in room coffee maker, no fridge. Well used rooms with a bit of a musty smell. Probably time for new carpet or at least for Embers, but it was a nice, quiet area and it served the purpose. A place to sleep for the night. The staff that checked us in was super friendly and there was a cafe where you can get a cup of coffee.

The room smelled musty/moldy just terrible overall. The quality of the bed linen was terrible. The bed/pillows were uncomfortable at best. There were Spiderwebs & spider in the corners of the room. Power outlets were not easily accessible for electronics. The Room/Bathroom was so outdated and in need of a complete renovation. No amenities other than free WiFi, which is the only thing that I can say was good about our stay. The room was supposed to have a mini fridge, it didn’t and we had to ask for one as we had a birthday cake and other goods for our son’s birthday celebration. The first night was a horrible experience and we had to change rooms. The second night wasn’t good, just a little bit better than the first night. The place needs to be renovated inside and out. Will not stay there again.

When we entered the property to check in, there was no parking available. The receptionists were very unfriendly and not helpful when it came to questions about the area and things to do. There is no dedicated area for luggage storage and it just placed in in front of the reception desk which is not secure at all! The hotel grounds are very run down and generally not maintained well. There are is no fridge, microwave or kettle in the room. Some of the lodge rooms are upstairs with no elevator so it is difficult to take heavy luggage upstairs. It was hard to sleep at night with a constantly tapping noise outside. The only positive is that it’s next to the beach when there’s a direct boardwalk from one of the hotel parking lots.

The grounds are beautiful but My room looked was so old and tiny and dirty. The curtains were ripped up and being held together by safety pins, the bed looked like a twin sized bed. The bathroom was dirty. We didn't even stay the night. I asked the front desk to switch our room and they said they had no other available rooms but could not give me a refund either. We left 1 hour after getting there and booked a room at another hotel. I have submitted a request for refund with Expedia but still have heard back from them, it's been over a week

Asilomar is within walking distance to the most beautiful coast. For someone who wants to watch the waves and see incredible sunsets while sitting on the beach or on a bench nestled in the dunes, this is a great place to go!

It needs to renovated. There were spikes sticking up from where the carpets were pulling away from the floor. It wasn’t very clean either. There were lots of marks on the walls that looked like bugs were squashed in those spots. Carpets weren’t vacuumed well. Crumbs were on the ground when we entered the room. My son found an empty plastic bottle under one of the beds.
