New Philadelphia, OH

Travel Guide
Small-town America comes to life in this historic pioneer settlement, with a downtown that replicates one of the United States’ biggest metropolises.

This historic pioneer settlement in northeastern Ohio offers a fascinating insight into small-town America. New Philadelphia prides itself on its historic past. Investigate the town’s legacy in its architecture, parks and memorials. The downtown precinct of the town is a direct replica of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, albeit substantially smaller. With the twin town of Dover located just to the north, New Philadelphia is one of Tuscarawas County’s most lively municipalities.

Wander around the town center on foot to get a feel for New Philadelphia. Explore Main Street, which dissects the center of town, for the best shopping and dining opportunities. Browse antique stores for locally made heritage items and Amish furniture or stop at a diner for home-cooked fare. Much of the food in the region is German and Swiss these were the early settlers of the region. Sample hearty sauerkraut and potato-based dishes and sweet strudels.

Spend the day relaxing in one of the many parks and green spaces that are scattered around New Philadelphia. Take your children to ride on the antique carousel in the center of Tuscora Park or play in the swimming pool. Enjoy a picnic next to the duck pond. Rent a canoe to spend the day on the Tuscarawas River. Take in an open-air concert in the Schoenbrunn Amphitheatre or stop for a few moments at the Fort Laurens State Memorial to pay your respects to the soldiers who lost their lives fighting the British.

New Philadelphia is located approximately 30 miles (48 kilometers) from the Akron-Canton regional airport. Pick up a rental car at the airport. Some public transportation is available in the town, but having your own car will allow you to explore the surrounding wilderness, including Wayne National Forest and the Cuyahoga Valley.

"The location of the property is right in the heart of Berlin, yet it's so quiet that you feel you're in a country cottage. It is well designed, tastefully decorated and well equipped. The bed was so comfortable. Just perfect for a couples getaway."
