Nestled away at the top of the island - this classic hotel has everything you could want. A number of restaurants spa pools tennis and access to beach. Gardens are a real plus - great to wander thru and down to pool spa or beach. Service was really good - in all departments - Rooms spacious nice views of bay - Classic hotel style to match

Great location but a little remote if you prefer to a greater choice of better value restaurants etc. Food and drink on site is very expensive compared to the best available in the nearest town, Porto Pollena. Taxi fare to and from the town is 22 Euro (July 2019).

The views are amazing, and there is a lovely relaxed feel to the hotel. It is smart but not pretentious. It's not cheap; a pizza or a salad for lunch costs around 18 euros, and you have to pay for loungers and shade on the beach (60 euros for a day under a cabana with a double, comfy, padded wicker bed). Watersports are also extra. We opted for the half board option, and thought that the food and selection at breakfast and dinner was excellent.

Lovely setting in beautiful gardens with views over the Med. Room was good but ac unit was directly over the headboard discharging on our heads which made it difficult to sleep. Breakfast was very good. Evening buffet was expensive and the a la cartel menu had a very limited choice.

it's a real paradise. The gardens, the sea, the interior was just perfect, it's a pleasure to just be there, forget swimming or sunbathing or relaxing. The only negative I'd say is dinner buffet, which is not worth 55 euro per person, I expected after having a great breakfast.

There is nothing at all to complain about. The staff were all extremely helpful, pleasant and polite. We were a little worried after reading some of the reviews concerning the rooms. No need to worry. Ours was wonderful. Big comfortable and very clean. We stayed half board and the food was excellent. We were there for seven nights and the choice was varied every day. Very very pleased. Will definitely be going again.

Disappointing.
So sad to see that the legendary Formentor Hotel has turned into a mediocre package holiday hotel for Brits. The interiors are old fashioned, the staff distant rather than welcoming. It was very disappointing that so few rooms have balconies and what a shame that the new hotel owners do not make the most of the spectacular setting by investing in a beautiful spot for morning coffee, lunch, drinks or dinner close to the waterfront. A massive wasted opportunity especially as the other locations to eat and drink are fine but not special.

Truly a Royal Hideaway
Magical, from the drive down to Formentor to the last glance back on departure. The setting, our room and the wonderful attention of all the staff made our first visit a most enjoyable experience. Formentor - a Royal Hideaway, certainly lives up to its name. A classoc 5 star hotel; graceful and elegant without prevention. Next year's stay is already being planned.

The staff was absolutely terrible and so rude! Our room was very old and the air conditioner did not work. When we checked in they made us pay extra for a room we had already booked and then were incredibly rude and made very insulting comments numerous times. We tried to cancel our stay and they would not let us out of our reservation. I would never stay here again and would not recommend it to anyone.

Beautiful hotel in an amazing location. We brought our 13 month old child and unfortunately they allocated us a room directly above where they play live music that kept going till midnight. That aside, brilliant place. Just make sure you don’t get our room.

Overall a Nice hotel in beautiful settings, the staff were helpful and polite. The breakfast had a good selection but the rooms in this hotel let themselves down. We were initially given a room which was small in size & the bathroom was very dated and the paint was pealing from the side of the wall/ door. The standard reminded me of a travel lodge. You don't mind it so much at travel lodge when you're paying £35 a night but at a five star hotel it's rather disappointing. We requested to move and was moved to a better room with a renovated bathroom. This hotel felt more like a 4star

Hugely disappointing
I have never taken the time to review a hotel being a constant traveller however feel compelled to o. This occasion. Hotel Formentor was a dreadful disappointment ! Having booked a top seaview room we were relegated to the top floor whose ceilings were barely higher than my husbands 6ft 3 height ! Small Windows no balcony tiny bathroom with rusty bath and no space to move in ! The hotel was set I. Beautiful grounds but was tired and old and the restaurant. By pool was shut ! The staff were few and far between and impossible to get service ! There was no service at the pool for drinks and no Towell boys ! It had definately seen better days ! I tried to order a glass of wine at bar and was told they had run out due to a conference they were hosting ! Lastly it porports to be a beach hotel but the hotel does not have its own beach one needs to walk 10 mins down to a public beach where you are charged 40 to 60 euros for a subbed ! We cancelled our stay after one night and checked into the Jamira hotel in Soller which is incredible !

The hotel is situated in stunning surroundings: a beautiful coastline and gardens . The beach is quite narrow and very busy. The sunbeds with tahitian style parasols were very expensive at 120 euros per day. There is a good choice of restaurants for lunch (all owned by the hotel) but only 2 options for dinner: a buffet or the more formal El Pi. Breakfast is a huge buffet with lots of choice. Our main gripe was the water. We were told by reception it was safe to drink the tap water but when we asked for it in the restaurants in the hotel we were refused. We had to buy 1/2 litre bottles at 4 euros each, which for a family of 4 mounts up. They said they couldn't sell 1 litre bottles even though these were on the buffet bar at breakfast. In our rooms we were given one 1/2 litre bottle per night for 2 people. Not conducive to trying to keep hydrated....

Location Superb unbeatable
I'm certain that as long as I live I will not visit another hotel anywhere in the world with such a wonderful and exclusive location. The surrounding mountains, the beaches and seaside are absolutely superb.Add to this the vast mature gardens which have been beautifully planted and planned makes this a truly wonderful experience.

Beautiful, classic hotel, amazing beach and park
Amazing hotel, grand and with style, not in a flashy way, but tasteful and subtle. Spacious, also beautifully kept park with pool that offers great view onto bay. Beach just 2 mins walk away through park, could be right from the Caribbean, lined by pine trees. Rental car needed, as hotel relatively secluded. Staff/ how hotel is run were weak point from our perspective. We booked sea view, upon arrival late in evening we were given park view room, which luckily - as it was dark already - we realised so could ask for this to be changed. Once when ordering a burger for room service well done with no bun, the most disappointing little burger medium rare arrived, accompanied by just a few fries. We asked for this to be changed, only to be presented with the exactly same made burger again little later... When I tried to buy coffee or ice cream at the beach bar, waiters kept me waiting for up to 10 minutes and each time did their best to ignore me (albeit not successfully :)). We also repeatedly asked for a brochure with available spa treatments and were promised it each time by the lady at reception, but never received this. 50 Euros for the evenings' buffet dinner also was on expensive side, food was very nice but not amazing, did not offer much variety. We overall very much did enjoy our stay in this calm, special place, despite the above! We hope the hotel finds a way to improve this, so that the character of how hotel is run is in line with its beautiful exterior.

Beautiful grounds and location needs an update
The Barcelona Formentor is set in exceptional grounds in a beautiful location near the beach. The hotel is elegant and charming has five stars but it really needs to be modernised. The bathrooms are small with basic facilities and we had a rotten door and the bathroom smelt somewhat. The carpet on the stairs is threadbare in several places. The hotel does have a sophisticated atmosphere and there are regular classical concerts at dusk. It is ,however, very expensive , the food in the buffet is mediocre and the cost of €60 for a sun lounger for two per day on the beach is exorbitant. The hotel really should pick up this fee. The clientele is mainly elderly , so not really suitable for honeymoon couples nor young families.

Beautiful vistas (beware dangerous hot plates)
Beautiful vistas, excellent service. Only problem was my daughter burning her arm on the hot plate at breakfast. The hot plates were boiling hot, to the extent they were dripping scolding water onto the area below. This caused my daughter to burn her arm, and the hot plates should be replaced immediately.

Beautiful, peaceful in a wonderful setting
We stayed 4 nights but it was so blissful it felt like we'd had a longer break. Elegance, fantastic service, sublime buffets, a huge pool you can swim properly in. A pool man who jumps to sort your sun beds. Have a walk around the nooks and crannies of the gardens. Lemon trees tucked away hanging in huge ripe fruit. All with breathtaking views down to the pine-tree lined sea. We were even upgraded. Top quality bed linens on a two metre wide bed. Thank you Hotel Formentor we will return.

A beautiful hotel with everything on hand for adults and children alike. Can't be faulted on a single detail but given the cost (astronomical) you'd expect nothing less. Having said that it's wonderful to know that such places exist - it is literally a paradise.

Very nice staff at the reception, cleaning people and pool. Amazing gardens, beach not too far but you have to pay extra for long chairs/umbrellas. Very nice swimming pool. Older building. Bed comfortable, room and bathroom small . Restaurants over priced, good food but would expect better in a 5 stars hotel. Overall a very relaxing stay.

They have a monopoly.
As they are the only hotel in the area they can do as they please. You pay their prices or don't go. They lead you to believe that they have a private beach when it's not. If you want a sunbed on the beach it's 16 euro's each, per day .Nowhere can you find a price for the buffet dinner.Only the hugely expensive suites have a balcony, the sea and mountain view rooms just have a small window. The rooms are painfully small for the cost. On the day that we left we were locked out of our room before 12.00 noon, very embarrassing !!

Hotel Barcelo Formentor
A wonderful place to relax. We found the room to be very quiet with very little disturbing noise from other rooms.Excellent hotel with various restaurants to eat along the beach, all owned by the hotel. The morning was spent relaxing around the pool or gardens. The staff were excellent, nothing was too much trouble. I would go again.
