Great location, very outdated.
The location was amazing and the property was great - but very, very outdated. It was 35 degrees and there was no AC, not even a fan we could borrow. The room was sealed with a double window and there was just a small skylight on top for ventilation and the room was stifling. I think if the ventilation issue can be fixed, it would be a very pleasant stay,

Clean but ready for renovation
The hotel is older and the room reflected a dire need of renovation. The grounds were very unkept, I suspect due to the hotel being shutdown temporarily for COVID 19 travel restrictions. The personnel were very friendly. There wasn’t a breakfast buffet due to Covid19 restrictions. We had to order the breakfast the night before.

Price is good, but you get what you pay for
The price and location is really great which attracted me to this hotel. However I was a little disappointed by the lack of upkeep of the hotel. The carpets are visibly stained throughout the hotel. The shower spits at you with only lukewarm water and the mattresses probably should have been replaced a few years ago. It was only a two night stay so not the end of the world but I am very glad it wasn't any longer.

Schwarzland
It’s was a fabulous place at one time. It’s in a quiet remote setting and a beautiful location. It’s needs to be updated and if you want to stay on the main building as seen in the ad you have to pay the higher rate or you will be put in a side building about 100 meters from the main building. The price is a little high for US standards for what you get, but is reasonable for the surroundings area.

Very mixed experience DEEP in the Schwarzwald!
This is a very, shall we say, particular place! I had no idea on booking that my room would be in a building 10 minutes walk from the hotel, or that it would be basically deserted. The entrance hall to my part was grubby and not secure, door constantly left open, and the corridors are really delapidated. On first impression the room seemed ok, but the bed had springs you could feel and the carpet was not in a good state. However the sheets were spotless, despite not actually fitting the bed so they had 2 interlayered, and serviced daily and the bathroom was also very clean indeed. My arrival was delayed due to a late flight but I got hotels.com to phone ahead. My key was sitting with my name on the reception desk with several others unguarded. I like that they trust people but that seemed weird to me. I eventually found a friendly young woman who told me that my room was some distance away and gave me a map! Breakfast was only ok, poor scrambled eggs, weak coffee, but buffet style and plenty of it. I feel that it’s a summer cabin style place but in what looks like a gulag! All the photos are of the main building that I hardly saw. My gulag was the 10 minute walk away. Deceptive advertising. Naughty. I was grateful for a fast hot (tiny) shower though.

Out of the way, but a great breakfast feast!
We've stayed her twice, and although booking through Hotels.com get's you the 'out-building' where there's no wi-fi (grrrr) and the rooms are far less nice... they're still okay for the money. Nice bathroom and clean and quite. The breakfast is a feast and practically worth the money alone! Wow! (We had t-mobile and were able to be online in our room. Might not work for everyone, but it is in the lobby.)

It was a very nice place to get away. Definitely has the camp vibe feel because of all the different facilities on the property and the games. But a very nice place to stay in the Black Forest if you are passing through.

If you like school camps.
It was like being back at school camp. It was so authentic they had the usual 10pm kids running around the dorm hallways defying their leaders and not going to bed. However, it's very pretty.

Booked this hotel with the grabber price $68euros. Pictures looked nice of the front shot of the hotel. The nite included a very nice breakfast. I guess I got my monies worth at the $68 which was about $20 to $30euros less than surrounding facilities. What is not known is this. You are not staying at the nice place in the picture but an out building about a football field away. Walking at night from main building to room it was not well lighted and with rain and pot holes in the road you needed to watch your step. There was no light at the front door of the out building. So carrying your luggage and finding lock was challenging in the dark. Walking into the entry there was no light. Good luck figuring out which floor you are on to how the rooms are numbered. Don't think the 1st number of your room is the floor number. Night front desk clerk was cold and really uninformative. Day staff pleasant. The room was fine but floor was dirty and looks like it wasn't vacuumed. The shower had only a 1/4 wall so showering you had to be careful to keep spray down to a minimum. Breakfast was good. For $68 I guess I got what I paid for. Next time I will be careful of grabber prices in order for the hotel to fill rooms. No wifi in out buildings either.

Lovely hotel in the black forrest, great location for a quiet peaceful break. We brought our dog with us and the hotel was very accomodating. The set menu at the restaurant for dinner was excellent value.

Great stay except for having no hot water!
We were only here one night on a cross-Europe drive through Germany, but had selected it for its lovely location and good price for value. It is off the main tracks a bit but definitely worth the drive! The forest around it is beautiful and the setting fairly quiet, the hotel is in a larger hotel/spa complex in its own private environment. We stayed in the main building, which was nice and quiet. Unfortunately, we arrived just as dinner was finished (9PM) and they only do buffet, so we had to go into town a short ways to find food. Several good options there, though, and only a five minute drive. Overall the stay was very nice, the rooms are nicely appointed and comfortable, and the included breakfast buffet was good. This hotel has a lot of charm, and would be a very nice base for exploring the area for more than a night. The wifi worked in our room, though it was a bit slow. The only downside was that they seemed to be completely lacking in hot water during our stay. The evening of our arrival I wanted to take a bath but could get only lukewarm water at best to come out of the faucet. By morning, there was no hot water at all and we had to take cold showers. Not impressed.
