Great House Villa, Jost Van Dyke

NOTE: We are the owners of the property and do not use any other agent for booking of Great House Villa.

Great House Villa is located on the quiet east side of Jost Van Dyke, overlooking several smaller islands and cays (Sandy Cay, Sandy Spit, Green Cay, Little Jost Van Dyke). The entire villa is air conditioned. Your arrival to the villa will ideally be via water taxi, or ferry followed by land taxi, and is the beginning of a memorable and relaxing vacation.

You will be met at the Sandy Ground dock by Saga, our caretaker, who will assist you with your luggage and provisions. He will transport you the short drive up the hill to the house. From here you will encounter far reaching views, welcoming ocean breezes and a serene sense that all your troubles are all far behind you.

The two story guest house contains 2 bedrooms each with a kingsize bed and en-suite bathroom, one upstairs and one downstairs. A living room upstairs with dining area, TV, DVD's, etc. Both bedrooms and living room have a/c. The bedrooms each have large wooden wrap-around decks with rocking chairs. The living room opens up onto to the pool deck with sun loungers and bbq, which is only steps to the quaint Caribbean kitchen with colorful wooden shutters. The kitchen is fully stocked with modern appliances.

Wander through the tropical gardens to a viewing deck near the water's edge where a private tub is ready for you if you wish to bathe in the open air while watching the boats sail by.

A dinghy is available to those who wish to discover the surrounding inlets and beaches. A fee of $50 per day is charged for use of the dinghy. Please let the owner know if you wish to make use of this service.

A double kayak is available for our guests to enjoy.

Provisioning must be done ahead of arrival. You should arrive with all your groceries. You can purchase a few emergency supplies in Great Harbor.

The owners stay in the main house, however you will have sole use of the swimming pool during your stay and privacy is assured.

Great House Villa is your ideal getaway. This rental is suitable for a romantic escape or honeymoon, as well as a family and friends vacation.

We loved everything about our stay at Great House Villa. The trip did require deliberate planning ahead, but all the guidance and recommendations provided by the owner steered us perfectly in the right direction. Saga, the caretaker for the property, was an absolute gem! He made sure we were well equipped and had all the insights to make our excursions around the island seamless. We felt like we had our own private piece of paradise and are already planning when to return! Note: this property would be difficult to navigate for anyone with mobility challenges.

Even Better Than the Pictures
I'm a bit of a restless person but this place cured me for the duration of our stay. The grounds are rugged but every step is worth it to the private beach and/or the "tub" deck. Our hosts were gracious, Saga was attentive, and Tuna kept an eye on us. We'll be back for sure!

Our family spent 4 incredible days at this one of a kind, peaceful, magical home in Jost. Words cannot describe the level of care and attention to every detail the home offers! Everything space is well thought and planned to allow for comfort and such a sense of relaxation and calm! We cannot wait to return! Stunning views & wonderful, safe property!
Amazing place and we hope to return. We spent our time basking in the sun, watching catamarans sail and pelicans fly by. We also used the dinghy to get to Taboo (and loved Bubbly Pool), kayaked in the pristine water, walked to the beach and played with Tuna. Saga helped us so much. He found us a Jeep rental and we loved the adventure of driving to Great Harbour and White Bay. Saga was also available for questions or concerns. The grounds with vibrant flowers and magical butterflies were beautiful.

Spectacular!
This place is amazing!! The house is great and has everything you need. You have your own private beach, own private dock, a dinghy at a small additional cost, and a bathtub over looking the Sea. The first day we decided to not rent a car. You do have to walk up a path to hit the main road so that taxi can pick you up. I have trouble getting around so we rented a car and drove all around the island and back and forth to the villa. It made it more convenient for us. However many people do not rent them at all. The Dinghy was a great addition to our trip. We went to Bline multiple times and Sandy Spit as well as Sandy Cay. You are even walking distance from Bubbly Pool. The house had everything we needed for our stay. We did not bring provisions so we did not utilize the kitchen but it seemed well stocked. My favorite part was taking a bath every morning overlooking the water while the sun was rising. We will def. Return. They have a house keeper Saga that can help you with anything you need. He was great. We cannot wait to come back!

If perfection exists, this is it
Great House was so perfect I almost hate to review it so I can keep the secret for myself. It was in the most gorgeous setting with every comfort considered. Plunge pool, outdoor dining, sunrise, sunset - every moment was magic from ever corner of the house. Saga provides just the right balance of support and privacy. Going back isn’t the question, only when. Thank you for a rejuvenating stay!

Absolute heaven!
We stayed in the Great House Villa in early June 2023 and the weather was perfect every day. The views are magnificent, and the property extremely private and secluded, making for a totally restful vacation. Saga the caretaker was helpful and kind and showed us how to make fresh passion fruit juice. The resident kitty cat Tuna is loving and attentive—-always looking for a pat or a lap to purr in. We had a fabulous visit to Jost Van Dyke!

Feels like home
This was our second stay at Great House Villa, and it was just as magical as the first. Although the island was a bit more crowded this trip, Great House Villa offered a respite from the crowds of tens of people. 😉. This island might not be for everyone, but it feels like home to me. The house, the grounds, the caretaker Saga, were as amazing as our first trip. Watching the sunrises while sitting in the cool morning breeze was therapeutic and healing. We are checking our calendar for a return trip as we can’t wait to return.

Absolutely Perfect.
Amazing home in a remote location. House was better than expected. Would definitely rent a Jeep as the road to the entrance and cab pick up is very difficult. View is amazing and Saga is extremely helpful and knowledgeable. We had an amazing trip - will definitely come back!

Best location on JVD
We adore staying in this home right on the waterfront at sandy ground. The walk to the secluded beach, short ride to Taboo or Bee Line make for a wonderful relaxing Caribbean day. The home is cared for by saga and his presents of fresh fruit are the icing on the cake! My duaghter loves the cat Tuna and makes sure we pack cans of tuna for her each time. Best vacation spot ever!
My wife and I, as well as our daughters (16 & 18) all really needed a relaxing vacation—and we found exactly what we were looking for! The views from the house are spectacular; so much so that there were several days during our trip when we never left the property. Saga, the house manager, stopped by every single day to check on us and to see if there was anything we needed. I shared that we were running low on coffee and the next thing I knew there was a bag of coffee beans waiting for us on the kitchen counter. The house was very clean and well organized. Truly a five-star spot and we’re already looking forward to returning again soon (we hope)!

A Secluded Paradise!
Pictures do not do the property justice! The house and views are remarkable. Kitchen was perfect size to meal prep, had all of the necessary tools. This property does require some pre-planning - ordering groceries ahead and arranging local transportation. Cathryn the owner was very nice at suggesting how to make it all work, just know that you must do it in advance for success. We forgot to order coffee and it nearly ruined our first day! Thank goodness Saga took us into town and let us grab a few items that were missing from grocery list. Also - take plenty of cash for taxis during the week, there is no way to get cash on island and taxi was $20 each way into town (December 2022). Definitely a hike to main road to get to the taxi - it was beautiful and fun, but certainly wouldn’t work for everyone. Renting the dinghy is a must! We had such fun being able to access deserted beaches and Foxy’s Taboo. We loved it all so much and are excited to come back with friends and/or our adult kids soon!

Magical Time in a Magnificent Place
We are always mesmerized by the calming affect this island has on us. We needed to “Get Away” and GreatHouse Villa just added to the immediate decompressing feeling you get as you arrive at the Villa, walk down the steps to the inviting pool deck, and the view across to Tortola. Although we arrived in a “Down Pour” (they say about 5 inches of rain) Saga, who took great care of us, met us on the dock and quickly swept us up the hill to the Villa. Very comfortable setting, with expansive sea views and sea breezes to cool the day. The house is equipped with AC, although we never turned it on, the house and bedroom kept cool with the breeze. We were lulled to sleep by the crashing waves just outside our bedroom. We arose to beautiful sunrises, and the nights were lit by the seemingly enormous full moon. Saga, who saw to every detail, even bringing us the harvests of the property, passion fruit (a delightful juice) egg plant, and the many beautiful flowers, was a treat. Tuna, the resident cat, is adorable, and loves to be around people. A survivor of Hurricane Irma, she loves to play and have her belly rubbed. The island, for those that haven’t been, can be a life changing event. The people, the beauty, and an amazing Villa, make for an adventure that will keep you longing to return.

This villa has the most amazing views, outside space, and lovely interior. I have to note that I consider myself to be a "bed snob" and really need a comfy space to sleep - the bed in the upstairs bedroom (we only rented 1 room) was AMAZING - super comfy and high-quality sheets/bedding!!! Mornings were relaxing, drinking coffee on the outdoor deck or lower "tub patio" right next to the water. Afternoons were spent out and about exploring. We were very happy we also rented the dinghy - heading across to Bee Lines for a drink or Sandy Spit to just chill were perfect for us! Evenings we either stayed in and ate dinner (the kitchen is small but well equipped with everything we needed), or we got a taxi to bring us into Great Harbour or White Bay for a "night on the town." We enjoyed Tipsy Shark and Hendos! We had over 3 inches of rain and thunderstorms one day and just hung out with Tuna (the cutest, sweetest cat ever), playing mancala, and just relaxing - kind of perfect mid-week!!! We did utilize a water taxi for arrival and departure, and also provisioned ahead of time from Tortola (highly recommend this). We were greeted by Brian and then the remainder of the week Saga was our go to for support (Saga is so kind, informative, and just super helpful all around). Catherine (owner) was wonderful to work with prior to our arrival - very communicative, great recommendations, and very kind. If you don't have a vehicle, given the "walk" from the main road (taxi pick-up/drop off), dock, private beach, and/or the "tub patio" I would recommend you ensure your entire party has good mobility. It isn't far at all and we quite enjoyed the little strolls, but one section is very steep and the footing is a little rocky. We were so sad to leave (the villa and Tuna - LOL)!!! My review title is accurate - we are looking at returning in 2023 - just need to pick dates!! My husband and I truly enjoyed our week at the Great House Villa.

Amazing View and Very Clean
The property was immaculate, the owners and caretaker were very helpful and the view was amazing! In my excitement to book I missed that there is only an air-conditioner in one of the two bedrooms, all on me. It might be helpful to bring a pair of tennis shoes as it is about 250 yard walk up/down a rocky road to the boat dock and about 400 yards to the taxi cab pick up area, only needed if you go to town. The pool was clean and perfect size. It has an exterior kitchen that has an small ice maker and everything you will need for cooking and relaxing.
