Beach paradise
This is a great beach cottage! You cannot get any closer to the beach. The views were amazing and we enjoyed private beach access each day. What an amazing location!

Wonderful location for family getaway
5 adults and 4 children, we enjoyed the proximity to the beach, beach chairs and a parasol were provided, ate outside every evening overlooking the lake, used the bbq provided. Property was clean with plenty of beach/towels and bedding, a couple of games and puzzles, plenty of books for when we took a break from the beach. Steps up to the front of the house for entry, and a staircase down the dune to get to the beach, managed well by our 3.5 year old. Lovely location for a great price.

Glorious Lake View
We had a wonderful Father’s Day gathering for my family of all adult children. Being where there was a view of the lake from the house when it was chilly and a nice deck/overlook area to sit when it was warm was good for my Lake Therapy.” We are a close knit family so it works for us, but the sleeping quarters are not very private. Quaint and basic - old fashioned kitchen with updated appliances. Some of the pans needed attention before use. It was a bit of a challenge to find. There was a sign by the driveway but still very difficult to see the number to see which house was correct.

Absolutely beautiful location. Cozy old fashioned cottage
We loved our stay. Right on the beach. Beautiful sunsets. The description is exactly what it says it is. An old fashioned cottage.

Misrepresented
The property at night is almost impossible to find. The driveway was not even possible to get close to the house because of garage damage. The stairs were so steep our older friends had to check into a hotel. The overall condition of the bathrooms was unbailable ( pipes glued and just sticking thru the walls) for a fee of over $ 400 a night the facility should be user friendly. We own the largest parking lots and event centers in the US Gate Ten Events. The presentation of this unit leaves much to be desired.

Had a great family gathering
Overall a good experience. Just a few comments: My son-in-law has allergies so the lack of a good ventilation fan in the bathroom, the caulk in the shower showing evidence of mold and the shower curtain hanging so low that it touched the floor and not able to dry out was not a good combination for him and he had a day of not feeling well because of those issues. Also you may want to replace at least one of the boards on the walkway as it passes the upper patio deck area. The board in questions is very spongy and possibly could let loose and allow someone to be injured.

Very nice. Given the location, it could have used a bit better marking for the house address. Also, lighting outside could be improved. But overall very nice.

great views, cozy, not fancy. Needs a few small improvements
Overall, cozy and fine for my small group (3 adults). Although house sleeps 12, I would not recommend more than 8 people, as only 1 shower and only 8 chairs for dinner tables (1 in kitchen, one in front room). Kitchen was in need of some inexpensive but essential items: there were only 4 forks, but plenty of spoons, plates, cups, and cooking pots, mixing bowls. Needs: cheese grater; can opener (existing one not functional); FORKS!!; an 8x8" and/or 9x13" baking pan to make lasagne, cornbread, casserole, etc; more plastic storage containers for leftovers There was plenty of cookware for stovetop, but not much appropriate for use in the oven.

Location is majestic..BUT...
This property location and view is stellar. However, the management of the property seems to be lacking. I was not happy with the lack of CLEANLINESS and some very simple items that were either broken completely(e.g. outdoor grill, cabinets) or in dire need of attention. A handyman could quickly and inexpensively fix some of the things that need attention but after emailing the property managers I received no response. I'd stay in the area again for sure but this property really needs some TLC!!

A great stay on a beautiful property!
I rented this property with a few other friends and we had a great stay! We were nowhere near capacity of the property which allowed us all to socially distance as much as possible. The beach is just a few steps down and the view from the top of the bluff by the house is gorgeous! The house is nice enough with a cottage feel but also plenty comfy and in a great location close to Holland and other attractions. I would definitely rent this property again. Thank you for a fun stay!

All about Lake Michigan
This is exactly what we were looking for on a Lake Michigan—sunset views, lake access and enough beds for our group. It was just as advertised and management was very responsive when we called about an appliance problem. The stairs to the lake serve a number of nearby houses so you can expect some people walking through the property. Easy to rent a boat or jet ski on Lake Macatawa and drive it back to the property for day use. Easy drive to Downtown Holland. Would definitely consider renting again.

1930s cottage with panoramic lake views
It was what I expected and what I was looking for __ in a beach getaway. An old-school, cottage style feel & smell (musty, but in a cottagy camping way) --goes away when you open windows. I loved the old beadboard walls, light fixtures, Knotty pine and openess. There were four of us and it was very comfortable. I think many more than 6 it would be crowded (at least for me). It has a user friendly kitchen, old windows with latches (very cool), cupboards that don't close right (perfect). Heated main bath (works like a charm) w/stand-in shower. Two bedrooms face Lake Michigan. The swimming and views are incredible! Stairs are probably 60 but easy to walk up & down. _ Really nice location. Quiet & private. Nice neighbors.

We had a wonderful time during our stay here. The view is amazing and we were fortunate to have weather making daily beach time possible. We spent most of our time down at the beach or playing games/eating meals in the screened in porch to enjoy the view.

Location is perfect. Cottage is much older than it looks in the photos. It has charm, but a bit too pricey for no dishwasher, no washer/dryer, and not enough outlets. Fans in bedrooms but no way to plug them in.

Beautiful View
The property was as advertised. It’s not big, not air-conditioned, and the water pressure and temperature can be funky. But we knew all that going in. The location is ideal, and the view is perfect. Our kids loved the beach. With plenty of shade and lots of fans, it didn’t get too hot inside. Check in and out were easy. The neighbors were friendly. We will have great memories from our vacation on Lake Michigan.

nice view, but needs more amenities
We loved the view, of course, and the grill, clothesline, and kids' toys. With the hot and wet weather, we came needing to clear the musty hot air inside the cottage with air conditioning, but there is none (which we knew). There are fans, but not many outlets so the cords we're a bit tricky for small kids upstairs. No blankets with which to snuggle up in the evenings when it was 56 degrees. There were ample fruit flies in the kitchen when we arrived and they never left. Laundry would be a plus, but obviously tough for the space. The only way to bath our kids was tough with not much water pressure in the shower, but a ton of pressure in the kitchen sink?! The water is scalding hot out of all faucets, dangerous for kids. There was an awesome welcome basket, thank you to the owner. We really needed more personal house info how-tos, because the only information was general from BVW and that didn't answer questions specific to the rental home (i.e. the dishwasher). Thank you for the stay, it is just too pricey without the amenities for summer time at the lake.

Beautiful location and welcoming hosts who responded quickly to small problems even on a holiday.
Wonderful location, it really was steps to a great beach. There was no air conditioning, but they brought fans and most of the time we had a breeze from the lake. Really terrific spot!

Amazing Vacation at Barker Cottage...WOW!!
Barker Cottage was wonderful! The cottage itself is beautifully remodeled, and reflects the peace and serenity of Lake Michigan. Decorated in a beach theme, we were able to totally immerse ourselves in relaxation the moment we walked through the door. I loved being able to make morning coffee while looking out at the panoramic view of the beach. This set the tone for the entire day. There are ample sleeping areas provided so that an extended family can bond there. There was space for everyone to have their own niches, while the common areas also were roomy. The deck at the TOP of the stairs was our outside happy gathering place. There were also 2 landings with benches going down to the beach. The outdoor grill on the deck gave us the opportunity to enjoy outside cooking experiences. A big bonus was watching all the fun activity on the lake (which our grandkids called an "ocean.") Sailboats, parasailers, and skiiers all added to the fun. While we enjoyed our own private beach area, there are plenty of others near to add to the fun and excitement. The town of Holland has many fun things to do. There are the "Mom and Pop" charming places, as well as the large convenience stores. Wonderful eateries, and the Farmers' Market (on Wednesdays and Saturdays) is always a huge hit. Everything we needed was close by. Barker Cottage is a wonderful place to visit and a tough place to leave. We are looking forward to our next family experience there this Summer!
