The hostel building itself was very charming with lovely courtyards, seating areas and Andalusian architecture. Sadly, my room had none of this charm and badly needed work done to it. Some floor tiles and tiles in the bathroom were cracked with botched attempts to seal them up evident. The paint was flaking off the walls. The room door polish was faded and the one to the bathroom could not close properly. The bathroom was small and poky with evidence of mould. The bed cover had a stain on it and when I asked to change it, I was given one with cigarette butt holes in them. Worst of all, I got bitten by bed bugs during my stay. In hindsight, I should have asked for another room. The guy at reception was friendly, but he seemed to be by himself and he clearly needed more staff to help him keep on top of things. I don't recommend this hostel.

This place was great! As two girls traveling alone in a new country, we felt very safe. This location was very central, with a max 20 min walk to all the best places. We even were able to get to Motril beaches with ease.

Related to the price for a night (81 euro) this room was bad, because: horrible bed and old sheets an very small cushions; no further furniture (only 1 chair and no hooks whatsoever, broken cupboard door, an old broken tv)) ; very much noise from neighbors and running water; very old and tiny bathroom with no place to hang towels or put anything; shower curtain hung up with an iron thread. Wifi was good and the patio authentic as on the photo, but totally leaking water from the roof when it was raining. So I recommend to lower the price drastically or renovate.

Really nice and friendly stuff, central location (around 8' walk from plaza Nueva) however, the condition of the property itself is poor. Ants in the room, bathroom door was broken, dark room, just a small window very high next to the ceiling and the light the room has it's very weak.

The common areas are amazing, reflecting the oldness of the building and the general theme of Granada. The rooms though need to be updated. The TV set looks like a 80s version of computer screen. The shower curtains have molds. The trays in the fridge are dirty.

for the very budget minded
ok. so we only paid Au $45 a night. which in looking at it that way this place is just fine. if your being a bit picky then, its not the cleanest. the room was noisy. curtain rail falling off the wall. air conditioner dripping onto the pillow of the bed( even though it was turned off) old man at reception not very polite. but for $40 you could stay worse!

Our location is the nearest place to Cathedral, Albaycin, Alhambra... this means that we are in city centre, as you know, Pension San Joaquin is from XVI century and we cant modify our building...so yes, sometimes outside is noisy but we can`t control this. Futhermore, our facilities are working as always, if you have a problem you only have to say in reception desk. Sometimes we can't speak English fluency but we try. A gem in the city center
We were pleasantly surprised by this charming oasis hidden behind simple doors on a back street in central Granada. The room was large, bright and comfortable, although one bedside lamp didn’t function. The room was clean and the front desk was always open. There was no laundry service, but a coin laundry was a few minutes walk away. The coffee machine in the lobby was a godsend. Would definitely recommend and revisit.

Good for the money.
For the money the place was good. The location was also good. I'm sure in the summer the outside spaces would have been great. For the money we did wonder if we would have an en-suite bathroom and luckily we did. TV was very old CRT one and very small. Water was nice and hot.

Spare Your Blushes, 5 Nights Too Long
Attracted by the beautiful, historic appearance of the courtyard/reception, areas, I booked this hotel for 5 nights. Sadly, our room had no charm whatsoever; very shabby, not very clean, not very comfortable. The walls so thin, you could hear everything in the next door room - I shall spare further detail! Yes, it’s cheap, but we had a beautiful room in Malaga for the same price.

Mike in Granada
Pension San Joaquin was well located in the old part of Granada and was within easy walking distance of the Alhambra and other famous tourist attractions. It was about 200 meters off a main street with many restaurants, bars, shops, etc., where I ate my meals and snacked on ice cream and pastry, The rooms were on the small side, and the wifi server was too small or too slow for me to read my hometown newspaper on line; the newspaper would not load. The rooms were carved up into whatever shape would work, and there were interior steps between the rooms and the elevator, which made hauling a large roller bag more difficult. The staff was helpful, but only slightly conversant in English. All in all, it satisfied my needs because I only used the room for sleeping and showering.

I liked the character of the place and the location suited us well. Careful you get good directions if driving into the location, google maps does not steer you clear of the restricted areas and the tickets are expensive.

If you value your belongings DO NOT stay here. I had someone attempt to break into my suit case while staying here. I feel the attempted theft was carried out by hotel staff. The lock on my suit case was damaged and the suit case could not be opened as a consequence. The response from the hotel management was hopeless. The hotel is situated in the heart of Granada.This place is unbelievably noisy. Shutters constantly being slammed shut all through the night. Hotel guests laughthing and talking loudly all through the night. The rubish collection takes place through the night and the noise from the rubbish collection trucks adds to the noise. And if you feel tha the points mentioned above wasn't bad enough on the day we left there was dog poo left in the court yard. I spent two nights. I'm glad it wasn't any longer.

Historical Pensione
The hotel is as described by many who have been here as an old 16th Century Building which is the case. On arrival we checked into the hotel around 9.00pm and through broken English sorted out our room ,the room was on the first floor overlooking the main entrance and street. We dropped off our bags and headed out to get something to eat we found two small local tapas bars and enjoyed a few drinks and free tapas. Next morning we were pleasantly surprised at the location being a few minutes walk from all the historical venues in Granada with the area I would say as one of the local Spanish community and not many tourists which gave our break a real Spanish flavor. I would recommend the hotel for all who would like to get a real flavor of local cuisine and still be near to all the tourist spots

Great little find if you are not looking for fancy
Perfect triple room with cute balcony. We were able to check in early and leave our bags in a looked room after we checked out. Loved to courtyard and room was clean and beds comfortable.

The pictures of the ground floor courtyard sold me, but the place is not that great. The first room we were given was in a deplorable condition. After protesting, we were given a better room on the second floor, but even here the AC did not work and the pull to make the water come through the shower was loose. We had to struggle to get the shower to work. There was black, fussy mold in a corner where the wall meets the tub. There are good things about this place too. The males at the front desk are very helpful and pleasant. The day we arrived there was a lady on duty with an unfriendly actitud, who will not admit there were problems, and blamed the Hotels.com website for the missinformation about the property. There is no bus to The Alhambra passing in front of the property!!

Very much a budget hotel, which is difficult to find in Granada. Basic and barebones, but with air conditioning and wifi. The bathroom definitely had a but if an odour to it, and the toilet had to be filled up each day in order to flush. Pretty decent location, great if you are in a tight budget.

Convenient hotel
Hotel is within walking distance of all the main attractions. Room was clean if not a bit dated. There was a lift so we didn't have to carry out bags up all the stairs and towels and shower gel were provided.

Handy place, easy to get to on Airport bus. The place is old and the furnishings etc are old and need updating, however the place was clean, and very cheap. Also has a lift. My bathroom the toilet needed to be used sideways as there was no room lol. However at 88 euros for 4 nights it was fine. Loads to see in Granada, free tapas with all drinks, the Alhambra, caves in nearby towns.

Big Mistake
This place might be alright for a back-packer that has just arrived from Peru but, in all honesty, the hotel (?) really shouldn't be listed on a tourist site like Expedia. As we approached the building it felt like walking through a set of the film The French Connection and as we entered it we felt as though we had entered the set of a film in which someone would definitely be murdered. All 3 people behind the reception desk looked up from the meals they were eating & although the one that served us was civil enough the atmosphere was tense rather than welcoming. The room was horrendous with shortcomings too numerous to list, although most of them involved dodgy electrics, absent light bulbs, damp, leaks &, well, everything else. Just don't go here.

About the welcoming at Reception, let me talk with them because this is not acceptable. Sorry for all the inconveniences. About the area, Granada is full of little areas like this, narrow and dark streets, some are wide ... but this is the historic center of the city. Even the building is from 16 century. We had two rooms which were completely different. One was fine, the second was very small. To sit on the toilet you had to have one leg around the door frame into the bedroom. No chair supplied but two in the other room. The entrance door would not shut unless you locked it. Having said that it was lovely and clean. The people at reception went out of their way to help, and the courtyard and balcony where there are tables to cool down after returning from your sightseeing, are delightful. There is a lift which certainly helps with your luggage.

Don't be seduced by the pics!
Although the communal areas in this pension were impressive, the rooms were cold (we were there in March, the temperature outside was 8 degrees with no heating in the room), a bit tatty and the floor was dirty. Although friendly, the staff speak little or no English, so communication is difficult unless you speak Spanish.
