Stay in Downtown Detroit and visit the Motown Museum to see how Motown music got its start. Enjoy today's great music at the free annual Detroit Jazz Festival held here. The acclaimed Detroit Institute of Art, Museum of Contemporary Art and numerous art deco buildings are in Downtown too. The Greektown Historic District has transitioned from its early ethnic roots to today's cultural and entertainment center. Book a hotel here to attend major league baseball, football, hockey or basketball games, enjoy an evening at the opera or a casino, or mingle with others at the nearly 200-year-old Eastern Market. Accommodations north of the city in Troy are close to the Bharatiya Temple, a very large Hindu temple with interesting architecture and religious services and events.

Stay in Pontiac and learn all about the popular General Motors Pontiac car brand at the Pontiac-Oakland Automobile Museum. Hotels in Dearborn are surrounded by automotive history, including Greenfield Village with the Henry Ford Museum, Automotive Hall of Fame and a Ford factory tour. Stay in Madison Heights, which some have dubbed Little Saigon for its many excellent Vietnamese restaurants. Book a hotel in the revitalized Detroit RiverWalk area and bike or stroll for miles along the water, stopping to splash in fountains and gaze across the river to Windsor, Canada. The RiverWalk neighborhood is also convenient for visiting Belle Isle, a giant island park in the middle of the river, where you can go lake swimming, biking and hiking, and visit a small zoo, an aquarium and a conservatory.
