Would recommend staying at Wifala for your stay in Cusco. Hotel was clean and Jason (front desk staff) went above and beyond to accommodate any needs and questions we had while we were there. We stayed for 3 nights and he made sure we had secured a ride to our destinations. Breakfast was pretty good and served at your desired time.

Cheap
The staff were lovely but the building is poorly designed with no sound proofing in the walls or floors so extremely noisy. The plumbing is also very loud. The hotel is located a long way from the city centre in a suburban area.

The staff was really friendly and gave great advice and recommendations on tour packages. Great follow through with service. The hotel is really clean and decorated nicely. The cook for the morning breakfast buffet was super sweet and cooked up some mean scrambled eggs. The only reason I didn’t rate it 5 was because the bathroom was a little cramped and the mattress wasn’t the most comfortable bed I’ve slept in, but overall a great hotel that gets my recommendation.

The worst hotel experience in Peru
The worst experience in Peru! We had reserved a room with two single beds, instead they gave us a double bed room. 10x10 feet with hardly enough space to get around the bed. The mattress felt like a box spring we hardly slept. Our room was just over the reception next to the staircase and very noisy, staff yelling in the early morning. Not at all close to the center you have to take a taxi at night. Definitely not recommended!

Friendliest Staff!
This is a small boutique hotel. The hotel itself is quite modest but I'm not sure if Peru has much more to offer. My particular room was somewhat small but I know other rooms did offer more. Staff here are very welcoming and attentive and will help in whatever way they can. That being said, I don't think they had much control over the limited cable channels or low water pressure. What they did do is make me a personalized breakfast, help me contact local entertainment and food and always say hi!

Mediocre Hotel
The hotel itself is located in a decent area (5 minute cab ride/15 minute walk to the Plaza). To be honest, the rooms looked larger in the photos, and they were actually quite small, felt more like a private room in a hostel. The pillows were small (we asked for extra) and the bed was uncomfortable. Room is equipped with a space heater that did not work. Cusco also has MANY stray dogs, and in this area they barked all night long, so we did not get much sleep during our stay. Had I read that in previous reviews, I would not have stayed here. The water from the sink smelled terrible, I would recommend brushing your teeth and what not with bottled water. The continental breakfast was okay, but I think it could improve with adding more breakfast options, not much to choose from. Although the staff was pleasant and accommodating, I would not stay here again.

best little hotel in Cusco.
it's a bit far away from places to see, however given the cost per night and the cost per taxi Wich they can hook you up with and tell you typical costs, there is no better place. the staff was friendly, wifi albeit spotty was good enough, the water pressure at the 3rd floor was good, the breakfast is worth it. there are no elevators. but that's par for the course in a lot of smaller hotels. the staff let me stay a little later than average In my room and scheduled all my rides I needed in advance. top choice.

A different experience in Cusco
You'll feel like you are a couple of stars above what you paid. Every room is different, so all I can do is review the one we were in, ours was Chan-Chan, you can search for pictures of it online. Yes, the bed is hanging from the ceiling, it was very comfortable, very quiet area, hot water in seconds, and everything was very clean. At first you'll think the room and the hotel itself are brand new, but looking closely, some minor details will tell you that they're not, but in great condition, they really make an effort to be squeaky clean. The only downside is the fact that is located 15 minutes from the main square, where all the tourists will want to look for restaurants, bars, shopping, etc. For us it wasn't a problem, but some people would want to be closer. Didn't stay long enough to try the breakfast, sadly, for sure it was excellent as the rest of the experience.

Beautiful and Quiet Hotel
This was not a walkable hotel. You would need to take a short cab ride to get to the Cuzco city center. However, that cab only costs 5 soles (less that 2 USD). My room was beautifully decorated, the water in the shower was warm, the surroundings were quiet, and the staff was friendly. Cuzco is a cold city and central heating is not common. Wifala included space heaters in the rooms. Mine did not work very well but I got an extra blanket from the front desk so I stayed nice and toasty. I would stay here again.

Nice Small Hotel
I just stayed at this place before and after I did the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu 3 days ago. Wifala Hotel is a small hotel located just about a mile from the town square. The hotel is very clean. At first, its location appears unsafe to walk to the nearest restaurant during night time. But so is practically everywhere except in the vicinity of the town square where there is so much presence of the police. At any rate, a taxi ride to the plaza only costs 5 Soles. Harold, Carmen and Gina who take turn manning the front desk are also hands down super nice. They are so helpful and so enthusiastic to recommend where to eat, give tips on the price range one should pay for things sold at the plaza or how much one should pay for cab rides. And they really make their guests feel at home.

Wouldn't Recommend
We stayed one night in transit. We arrived fairly late and the check in was efficient, plus they organised a taxi to pick us up very early for our flight the next day. Beds were comfortable. Wifi was ok. Everything else was poor. Several dogs barking throughout the night next door, the shower didn't work properly, and they changed the price of the taxi the next morning. Had I known they would charge me more than what was quoted I would have just found one myself and haggled. Overall wouldn't recommend.

Nah...stay elsewhere
Check in was great. The woman at the counter was very friendly and helpful offering plenty of information and speaking good enough English to communicate. We had laundry to do so we dropped it off around noon on our first day. She said it would be returned the next afternoon. Our friends arrived a few hours later and they also had laundry. They dropped theirs off the next morning for same day pick up. Long story short, the next night at 11 pm our friends' laundry was done and when they gave us ours, thankfully we noticed that half our clothes were missing. After over an hour of phone calls and Google translate and nonsense, it turns out they were just stalling because half of our clothes were still soaking wet in the laundry room. We ended up having to leave for our Machu Picchu trek and shoving our wet clothes into our larger suitcase (and I am sure they won't smell very good when we get back.) And then the cab they said they would call for us never came and it took me being absurdly forceful to get them to refund the money for laundry they didn't do! All of that nonsense and no apologies from the guy at night, the clerk in the morning or the managers! Between that, the hunt for an outlet in our room and the crazy noise from the stairs and the paper thin walls when people come bounding down the stairs at 5am, this hotel was not a good choice for me. We ended up cancelling our return stay in favor for the hotel next door.

I don't reccommend
The room was dirty and our bedding wasn't clean. The hotel is located in a bad part of Cusco and not close to anything. The staff were nice but nothing special and the breakfast in the morning wasn't that great. It's not worth the price we stayed in hostels that were nicer and a third of the price.

Worst Travel Experience
I have stayed in places ranging from cheap hostels to resorts, and this hotel was the worst experience I have ever had. The door did not lock properly and what appeared to be cameras outside of the door, were in fact not. During my stay, someone stole $100 US and $100 Soles from my wallet, which I discovered after I returned to find my door open. (Earlier in my stay, I discovered my door open while I was in the shower.)The staff blamed my good friend (someone who paid for my meals/taxis/etc. before and even after the theft) and the staff would not call the police until I made repeated requests. Monica, the hotel manager, was completely rude, despite me saying that I wasn't blaming the staff, and that I just wanted the police called. The front desk clerk (a young woman) at one point gathered up all of the hotel room keys and said she was going to show me all of the other guests' valuables in their rooms to prove that they do not have thefts. I informed her that as a guest, I found this highly inappropriate. Monica and the clerk also insinuated that because my friend (who I know very well and who was staying in a different location simply because I preferred to stay at the Wifala) came over to watch TV for 5 hours and talk about a health retreat we had been on, that I should have been charged for a double room and that in turn I deserved to have my money stolen. The police did attend and there is an investigation. I am still hopeful that I receive a partial refund.

Lady We provide our services to our guests, we are always alert to be able to help and make your stay in our establishment is pleasant and respect the rules of the hotel one of which is to restrict the entry of outsiders and non-hotel guests for the establishment's own security and our customers do not respect you allow in your friend and your hotel room Attempt condition and force us to return the money allegedly stolen from US 100 and S / 100 in exchange for not putting a bad opinion Wifala Hotel, fact that we are not willing to allow and put the credibility of our establishment. It was the hotel management which I call the police to carry out investigations and must remind you that the registration of security cameras show that the only ones who entered his room were his "friend" who spent the night with you and hotel cleaning staff, his "friend" not to police delegation appeared to give his statement as requested by us and the police. You continue staying in the same room for 4 days and had "more problems" with the door of his room and left the hotel by breaking the glass table that do not report or payment and was his roommate that I left a note asking for apologies for this fact. We are human beings and deserve both mutual respect. We regret having to explain in this forum aspects of his private life but we have seen the need to do for the credibility and prestige of our establishment has been committed. We will from now more demanding and rigorous control and restrict the entry of foreign to hotel guests.

It was ok, wouldn't recommend though
The hotel's location is pretty sketchy. It's only 10-15 minutes taxi ride to the Plaza de Armas (8-10 soles), but most of the drivers didn't now where it was located. One of them ended up driving me for 30 minutes and dropping me off at the dump and pointing at the dark steep heal, pointing to the name of the street and saying I have to go downstairs myself, because my hotel is somewhere over there, terrifying experience. Anyways back to the hotel, its clean, had running hot water (although the pressure was weird and loud), the bed was comfortable and clean. The staff was nice too. Breakfast doesn't start till 6:30 am so if you are leaving to the airport early or to MP you are SOL. Most of the hotels I stayed in Cuzco would start at 4:00 am. There is no water to drink, only hot water for your tea. The internet worked fine. So yeas, mainly I think the location sis horrible in the middle of the dumb, with sketchy people hanging out outside and the doors are always locked so you have to knock like in jail. Also, VERY NOISY AND LOUD!!!! If you are planning on getting a good night of sleep forget about it. There were teenagers outside of my window, listening to the music, laughing, moaning and screaming! Not to mention the metal staircase inside of the hotel, people kept on walking, banging SO LOUD, I was terrified like someone is gonna break into my room at any moment! For the price I paid, I wouldn't recommend this hotel. It was $53, I paid $61 for the hotel right in downtown!

Subpar hotel away from tourist center
Staff was helpful on arrival, but when we got back to the room, we were surprised at the cheap quality and construction of everything. The desk/shelving in the bedroom had a leg broken off. There was no dead bolt on the door, and no safe in the room. The bathroom was also appalling; the shelf with 2 glasses on it broke as soon as i set down my glasses case on it, breaking the glasses and dislodging the glass shelf. The shower was sporadic with no water to super pressurized water and the water temperature was inconsistent. Wanting to handwash a few items, we tried to use the sink to do laundry, but there was no plug to hold any water. The bathroom was also awkward in that the door did not fully open, so only one person could fit in there at a time, and you had to tuck behind the toilet to open or close the door. The bed frame protruded out from under the mattress so much that every time we walked by, we would bash our toes on the frame. Painful and annoying. All this being said, breakfast was delicious. The staff was helpful and spoke good English.

Who has a 9 AM checkout? Also the hotel has a central column that with windows open into all bathrooms that allows the smells from all bathrooms into your room. Also the central column transfers noises from the breakfast into all rooms. Lastly, when I asked for a later checkout, I was told that they needed the room but when I checked hotels.com, the site said that they had plenty of rooms left

Home Sweet Wifala
The staff at Wifala far exceeded all expectations we ever had. Some of the most wonderful people we have ever met. On our third day, my mother felt very ill (possibly because of the altitude or the strain of coming and going from Machu Picchu) and the owner went home and MADE caldo de pollo for her because no restaurants nearby had light enough fare for my feverish mother. Everyone in the hotel treated us like family and made our stay in Cusco feel like home. Small and quiet getaway a 5 soles taxi ride from the Plaza de Armas.

Generally Good Deal
Wifala is a nice budget hotel for people looking to save money. The room was very clean and the staff were very friendly and helpful. They held our luggage for us while we killed time before our flight and they passed out hot water bags to warm the bed before we went to sleep. The breakfast was good - bread, sandwiches, and juice. You can tell the staff really care. Things I didn't like: 1) the room has a TV but it's the size of a tablet and the signal comes in really fuzzy 2) it's a 20-25 minute walk from the main plaza - not too far but far enough we took a taxi most of the time 3) the room is pretty small

I stayed here with an Ecuadorian family whom I was hosting. They have a one year-old child who is very active and damaged a plant in the lobby.
