Quiet Lakeside Cabin-view of Lake Logan-pet friendly-hot tub

Our peaceful retreat has something for everybody: outdoor adventure, a beautiful lake, quaint mountain towns to explore, and R & R in a beautiful setting. Days spent in our unique 1910 lake cabin are guaranteed to take you back to a simpler time and rejuvenate your spirit. We are pet friendly so if you plan to bring your dog, please indicate that at the time of booking as there is a $75 pet fee per pet, and a two pet maximum.

Our cabin sits on the shores of spectacular Lake Logan. It is about 100 feet from the dock on the shore of the lake. It is on North Carolina 215, a National Forest Service Heritage Scenic Byway which climbs alongside a beautiful stretch of the upper West Fork of the Pigeon River towards the Blue Ridge Parkway. Lake Logan is a crystal clear mountain gem (perfect for swimming in) which lies in a pristine valley. Our cabin is currently one of 3 buildings on our side of the lake and sits on a 40 acre tract subdivided into 4 lots and surrounded by forest service land. We share our roads and dock with three neighbors, only one of whom lives at the lake. Neighbors' houses can't be seen or heard from the cabin. We are also neighbors with the 300 acre Lake Logan Episcopal Center. Most of its campus is just up the road from us. Part of their property includes 5 cabins across the lake from us which provide reassurance that we're not totally isolated, but rarely bump into neighbors or retreat guests. Once an exclusive retreat for Champion Paper Company executives, Lake Logan, a 90 acre lake, is one of the most beautiful mountain lakes on the East coast and is completely surrounded by forest service land. Motorized boats are prohibited. So come soak up the serenity of God’s glorious gifts in this mountain sanctuary. Watch the sun set from the dock on Lake Logan or soak in the hot tub after a day of hiking or boating. The lake offers excellent fishing for trophy trout and bass, bluegill, crappie and perch. It is only open to guests of the conference center and us. You can relax in the swing on the covered porch, open the windows and fall asleep to the sound of the creek, or roast marshmallows at the firepit. Children will enjoy playing in the creek next to the cabin, swimming from the dock and paddling around in the jon boat or kayak. We've enjoyed spotting wildlife from the cabin and on the lake. We have a resident bald eagle. We've seen deer, wild turkeys, otter and beaver. The lake is home to geese, ducks, kingfishers, and heron.

Thousands of acres of Wilderness area surround the Lake. The Blue Ridge Parkway, the Sunburst swimming hole and a multitude of waterfalls and hiking trails are right next door. We're minutes from the highest points along the Blue Ridge Parkway. Extensive shopping & dining are only 15 minutes away in downtown Waynesville. The historic Biltmore House or eclectic Asheville is only 40 minutes away. Perfect for a romantic getaway, celebration of a special day, or a family vacation.

Although our cabin was built in 1910, it was completely renovated (in 2011) with all the modern conveniences, but period architecture (leaded glass windows, hard wood floors and bead board ceilings and walls) and furnishings remain. We have paid particular attention to craftsmanship and details inside and out, and worked to preserve the integrity of the period and mountain setting. The cabin has an open floor plan, large kitchen, two bedrooms and two full baths. The master bedroom has a queen-size bed, chest of drawers, as well as a full size closet for your belongings. The second bedroom also has a queen-size pillow top bed , dresser, and armoir. The sectional sofa in the den can be used to sleep 2 additional people. The second bathroom is off the den and has a shower and vanity with mirror.

The large living area is a combination kitchen/dining/living room and has great views of the wooded areas surrounding the home. The living room is accented with a gas log heater and comfortably furnished with a sectional sofa and television with DVD player. A windowed door opens to the front porch that overlooks the lake. From there you can view activity on the lake and the dock or grill your favorite foods.

The kitchen is fully equipped and in keeping with the period of the house. It contains an antique refrigerator/freezer and electric stove/oven. The microwave, dishwasher and coffee maker are new. There is also a breakfast bar that seats three and separates the kitchen from the den area. Dishes, silverware, pots, pans, and other cooking utensils are available for your use. The dining table, next to the kitchen, comfortably seats six and has a lake view.

Weather: we have 4 distinct seasons. Our property stays 5-10 degrees cooler than downtown Waynesville because of all the trees and the lake, but has the same weather patterns as the western North Carolina mountains. The lake temperature is cool, making swimming a refreshing experience even in the summer.

Keywords: Fisherman's paradise completely remodeled 1910 cabin tucked in the woods overlooking a private mountain lake in the heart of the Smoky Mountains, minutes from the Blue Ridge Parkway. Boat dock, V-hull jon boat and tandem kayak available for guest use. Creek runs beside cabin, hot tub on deck off master with creek view, large retro kitchen, washer/dryer, open floor plan, front porch,

Girls getaway weekend
Had a fantastic stay, the place is much larger and even nicer then the photos! Took some cold plunges in the December-chilled Lake followed by some hot tub recovery, baked gingerbread cookies in the old school oven, watched rom come in the DVD player and crafted holiday ornaments at the dining table! Tried to go for a hike off the nearby blue ridge parkway, but it was too rainy that weekend. Visited downtown Waynesville which was very nice! The best memories were hang out in the cabin and relaxing with the fireplace.

Wonderful cabin
What a wonderful cabin and lake! Beautiful area! Rustic cabin was great! Lake view and fishing was fantastic! Truly a fishermans paradise! Waynesville has great options for nice restaurants. Hot tub was very enjoyable. It is close to the road but that was a very minor downside. Still worth the stay and closeness to the water! We'll be back for sure!

Anniversary Weekend
My husband and I enjoyed our time at the cabin. (1 night stay) The lake was beautiful and peaceful. The cabin was just as described with plenty of space and pretty much everything I needed in the kitchen to cook even a baking dish, so I could make a cake. The cabin had a very homey feel to it, so it was very comfortable. The cabin was quiet even being next to the main road. Unfortunately we had to cut our trip short but even staying for a night, it was very relaxing. Enjoyed the hot tub that evening. Shower pressure was great. Log bed mattress wasn't the best but everyone prefers a different firmness and it did squeak when you roll over. My only issue and it really wasn't an issue was the trash can in the bottom hadn't been cleaned and smelled pretty bad and when opened knats came flying out. No big deal. I just used the extra trashbag and kept the lid closed. I let the owner know and their response was very prompt. Over all the stay was really nice and we enjoyed ourselves. Hope to make it back and stay for our full stay next time to really enjoy the lake.

Fantastic Fishing Getaway
We spent 3 wonderful days relaxing in the cabin, fishing on beautiful Lake Logan, and exploring the surrounding area. The setting is almost idyllic (other than the moderately busy road between the cabin and the lake, as noted in some of the other reviews). There was virtually no one else on the lake while we were there, and we caught a couple of decent bass and more panfish than we knew what to do with. Dan was an exceptionally gracious host, very available but non-obtrusive. This is definitely on our list of places to return to.

PEACEFUL GETAWAY
The property was just as described. The house had alot of past eras character with comfortable furnishings. I do wish there were a little more access to needed items like paper towels and perhaps ziplock bags/grocery bags when needed when packing up leftovers. The fishing was wonderful with lake access easier than most for those with bad knees. Great and timely communication with the owners, neighbors friendly and welcoming. Enjoyed our stay and will be returning soon!
